Hi!
I have never had a metal detector and am confused on a good starter set. My husband and I hike and would like to explore some battlegrounds in Virginia. Any Recommendations? Any used equipment out there?
Thanks for the help!
Cheri

I don't know of any battlegrounds that can be hunted unless on private property. Marked sites are off limits to detector except under special conditions. I have looked at finds by detectors users from battlegrounds but under supervision of the state of federal governmnet and the finds had to be turned over to the state or federal governmnet. IN some situation all that could be done was mark the spot of a find. You really have to be cautious about using a detector in any of those areas. Fortunately there are a lot of locations on private property that one can hunt.
There is a classified forum where you find equipment for sell at the forums index. It would be hard to go wrong with the Explorer11, Sovereign Elite, DFX and several other Whites, and several of the Fisher detectors. There are forums for most of them at this site so you can get an idea of what users think.
You can also learn a lot from the users on this forum. There are both new users and old pros that post here.
Good luck,
HH, Cody

You get what you pay for and how much time you are you willing to spend learning.
For the price and ease of use I would buy the minelab quattro, I have an excalibur, Exp II and a quattro, like them all.
Great hobby, good luck
