New To This Forum: Need Info

I have been posting on the Explorer Forum for some time now, This is my first time on this Forum. I have an Explorer II and it's been a GREAT detector. I have just purchased a Excalibur 1000 from Kellyco, and it will be here tomorrow. Any good advise on this detector would be appreciated. I have heard of some upgrades, but I don't know what they are. Thanks for any help.

Get used to your machine first then decide where you want to hunt and then that will help you decide on your upgrades. Out of the box, the Excal is a great machine, but it is heavy.....you may want a straight shaft to help balance that weight a little better. They have put new headphones on the newer Excal's......I understand that they are a lot better than the old style. I have Grey Ghosts on mine. A larger coil will help you go deeper and cover more area. You may be satisfied with the machine just the way it is. Don't buy anything until you are absolutely sure you will need it.

John: First off don't worry about mods....second, Read the manual and set up your detector. Charge your battery well. Depending on your beaches you go to(How much minerliztion is in sand)set sens.knob to 10 oclock and if it falses work to 11 and so on till it goes away.disc. knob to 1 if you just want to disc. out Iron. 3 is the highest I ever go if those small peices of foil and tin get you teed off.Volume I set to 12 oclock, and threshhold I set to loud enough to hear constantly, if it is windy and have hard time hearing it I turn it up.Thats basicly it, If you get a sound(target) dig it, the deeper it is the lower the pinpoint volume...and don't forget to turn it back to disc after pinpointing,I do it all the time after walking a ways and discovered I forgot and retrace to see if I missed something. Mods I have done is buy radio shack replacement knobs and that is it. Use the machine first to see if you like it and then worry about the straight shaft etc.....
