morning everyone. I'm new to this site and fairly new to dirt fishing . Been doing it about three years now and have had a blast. I have found some pretty cool things during my outings. I live in Carlsbad NM so most old coins if u find them date back to the late 1800s. I started out with a Garrett's ace 250. then purchased a mine lab explorer SE . man that machine was very complicated for me. I sold it and bought a mine lab Etrac and I couldn't be happier. Very awesome machine but I would like help in trying to master this one. Is there a way to down load patterns from one person to another via inter net. I'm also not real good at knowing what settings I should use and when. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new sun-ray probe and a really good price. I made the mistake of selling mine with the mine lab explorer. thanks for any help.

I think that you'll enjoy your E-trac. I know that you can get another Sunray X-1 Probe directly from Sunray, as for finding one at a great price, you can watch the detector accessory for sale forum, on the bottom of the forum list, for a lightly used one to come up for sale. They show up on a regular basis.

As for learning about each of the settings on the E-trac, there is an excellent guidebook written by Andy Sabisch called "The Minelab Explorer & E-trac Handbook". It covers all the aspects of the E-trac, their benefits and samples of programs used by different successful detectorists.

You can also do a search back through the E-trac archives and many of us have listed our most used settings at one point or another. Gives you a place to start.

Welcome,

Rich

Thanks Rich i didnt think i would receice feedback so soon. i appreciate it and will give those ideas a try. so hows the hunting in Utah

Hello from frozen Nebraska.

Always good to see some new names. Rich has pretty much covered it. You might look at one of the stickies at the top. Here's a link to "thebeepgoeson" site. You'll find patterns there you can download and then upload to your machine. For my own use, I downloaded Andy Sabisch's program at day one, and use it pretty much all the time when I'm in Conductive sounds. I pretty much run Gaz's (don't know if he has that one loaded up) when using Two Tone Ferrous (TTF).

Take care. Looking forward to seeing your finds.

hey Neb Trac. hows it going . well alittle run down on me. ive been detecting about 3 yrs now. my first year wasnt that great. i had an ace 250. not a bad machine unless ur buddy has a whites dfx. then u dont feel so great. he dug very little and when he did it was always 90% something good. so i bought a used mine lab explorer xs. not an se like i stated ealier. much better than the ace but really hard to figure out. around a year ago i bought the etrac. man best thing ive ever done especially being new to dirt fishing. i have found some cool stuff. my oldest dimes range 1869-1901. some buff nickels. some old tokens (late 1800s early 1900s) i do have some questions tho. im running multi tones is it better to run two tones and why. i have found only one gold ring, it was a 14k . it came up 12 15 thought it was a nickel. i love this md and found some great stuff but i no im along ways from mastering it. i love hearing from u guys and will take any advise you guys have to offer.

The tone selection is pretty much site specific. I normally run Multi tones in Conductive sounds. There are times when I run almost All Metal, 2 -Tone in Ferrous sounds. This is more of a European style of hunting where they will absolutely dig up every high tone. They are not trying to discriminate out anything, as the possibilities of missing a good find will far outweigh the trash digging. But in an American town park, discrimination will usually get you more quality finds without having to dig up too much trash, unless your specifically looking for gold rings in the park.

The only time I run TTF where I hunt is old houses, fields where towns once were or in extremely iron infested spots. The only gold ring I dug was a 10-10 on the E-Trac. There is a possiblility I'd let that one go at a park as well as your 12-15, depending on my mood. Usually I'll dig 10, 11, 12,....15 Co. numbers though.

Take care,

NebTrac

welcome to the forum and good luck
i dug a 14k wedding band the other day it was 6 inches jumping 17 18 19 - 19 you just never know

Welcome to the forum and good luck this season !:detecting:

Welcome desertdawg. Read the E-Trac Instruction Manual first (I read mine twice) and then read Andy Sabisch book called "The Minelab Explorer & E-trac Handbook". There are several sections in Andy's book that you will want to read twice as well. On the Minelab website (http://www.minelab.com/usa/products/coin-relic-detectors/e-trac?view=faq), download the E-TRAC Emulator software and play with that. You can get additional Emulator files and E-Trac patterns from the "Beep Goes On" website (http://www.thebeepgoeson.com/index_downloads.asp). You can also get additional infromation from Minelab.

hey from the desert. question. a lot of the time when im sweeping the ground i get a good signal but when i stop and sweep that spot i wont get any response. what does that mean . and other times i get a great signal when i sweep it again it changes and keeps getting weaker. should i dig or is the machine recognizing the target then determines that its not what it first appears to be.

What happens to your threshold tone, and also what discrimination pattern are you running in?

Typically, you're probably falsing and when you go back to check that "blip" or whatever the E-Trac has had a chance to analyze the target and according to your discr. pattern has chosen to disc. it out.

You're second one about the signal getting weaker, I'm not sure what you mean I guess. CONSISTANCY OF SIGNAL is my prime "first impression"...so to speak. If it gets weaker, it drops down a notch on my dig category - depending on where I'm hunting.

I dug a lot at first to see what the E-Trac was trying to tell me. If I were you, and you got a good pinpointer, I'd dig those a few times at each new spot and see whats turning up.

hey Neb Trac. it was a discrimination pattern from the peep goes on for coins. i have a lot of work to do with this machine. i went out today and once again i was getting a good beep then when i swept the area again nothing. it also gave me a good signal on every aluminum can.like good silver. today i dug a lot and produced a 1924 wheat penny. i had some good patterns made and some how i lost them i believe it was when i went to select a pattern i went to save and it loaded the pattern i was using instead. it was a verfy frustrating day. i will try again tomorrow and work on it again. i thank you for your patients and help

Cans can sound like silver coins or wheats too. Heck I've even had 'em sound like zincolns. One trick is to raise your coil while swinging and see how far off the ground you get that signal. If initially it said 6 inches or so and you're still pickin' it up at 6-8" above the ground....you've got a larget target. Another thing to do is to hit pinpoint and listen how loud the "squall" is. If it blows your head off you've got a large target. Might dig a few to verify though. I've hit 80's smashed aluminum cans at 12" and 10 feet away dug Mercs. at 6"....go figure.

If I can't find that "beep" again after 2 or 3 sweeps when swinging the same direction and speed as it was when I initially hit it, I don't worry about it. Consistency of signal.

Welcome!, I been hanging around a few months and a Great bunch of people here!

Neb trac thanks again. I cant thank you enough for your help and knowledge. I really have enjoyed this new hobby. Use to love to hunt and fish but that hasn't been real good where I live for the last several years. My oldest son loves to go out with me and has a blast. Maybe someday soon I'll come across a good deal on minelab safari or a x-terra 705 for him.

This is a really cool site. I have photos of some of my finds I would like to upload and share with the group. Spent over an hour and still couldn't get them to load. I think its me. Me and electronics we just don't connect.
