New to the XT

I have taken the leap to try the minelab "entry level" detectors. I have used the Fisher brand of detectors for years now and wanted to upgrade to a more modern detector. I tried the Fisher "F"series detectors, but was not very impressed; too noisy, annoying tones and jumpy vdi's for me. I currently use the coinstrike and I love it, but wanted to find a modern detector that would be the closest match to My C$ and CZ70. I think I may have found it with the XT-505. I will let you know what I think in future posts. Thanks to "Digger" for his in depth article for helping me make my decision.

Welcome to the "other side" Bill. And thanks for the kind words. I think you will find the performance of the X-505 to be very similar to the C$. (depth, sensitivity, separation) What I've found different, however, is that the audio tones of the X-TERRA provide me much more target identification information than those of the C$. To be blunt, just because it is round and metal, doesn't make it a coin. Some metal round targets are tent grommets, washers and bottlecaps. If you've had a C$, you know what I mean. And now that you have the X-TERRA, you'll appreciate the difference. Please let us know how it works out for you. JMHO HH Randy

Oh man. Another X out in the world. That means less coins for the outsiders.

I know exactly what you mean by the round objects with the C$ Randy. It still is a great detector, but when you described the way you hunt, multi tones listening to everything, I thought well that's actually what I was looking for in a VLF detector. I tried every brand of detector including the EXII, but could never find the right one for me other than the C$, which has it's limitations as you described. I actually think that the marketing that Minelab did actually turned me off a little. They describe it as their "entry level" detectors when in actuality the functionality and power would lend it to be the
top of the line detectors for most manufacturers. I chose the 505 because I mainly hunt for coins and I thought I didn't need the other programs that the 705 offered. I hope that I don't regret getting the 705!

HH,
Bill

Don't worry Bill, the 505 loves round objects too!!! Like you, my main detector the last six years is the C$ and really still is. I also purchased the 505 for a backup and to replace an ID Edge, plus I liked the idea of being able to change coils/frequencies, etc.

Whereas I like the 505 more than the Edge, the C$ is still my favorite/main detector --- maybe just because I have so many hours on it and understand what it's telling me..................Hawkeye Jim.
