NEW TO THE TEJON

New member
Hi users I have traded a mxt for a Tejon I am new to any Machine other then White's MXT. but I cant wait to learn this Detector. with it being used is there anything to look for to be sure it is working as it should I have downloaded the Manual.

Mxt Pro
soon to be Tejon user

Sven has posted air tests on his web site that match what I see. So I use those as a starting point.

Read the manual, set it up and play with it. When I first started out with the Tejon, I got mentally overwhelmed by signal in a trashy environment with the standard coil. Ended up hunting other areas until I got a 5.75 inch concentric coil, With the little coil it was a joy and it pulled a ton of deep nickles and some other stuff out of that trashy area.
Enjoy!

First you need to learn how to correctly ground balance the detector. You will notice that in all metal the threshhold is not stable, but who uses all metal. However, you will put it in all metal when ground balancing.

Second I would turn the center knob all the way CCW, or to the left until it clicks, that puts you in VCO and that helps tell if a target is large or near the surface. Once you learn the VCO you will love it.

Third run that baby as hot as you can. I usually run mine at least 9 or higher on sensitivity. Turn it up until it starts to get unstable then back off just a hair.

Fourth you will love the discriminators. It is so easy to use, find a target with first discriminator, flick the toggle forward and your in second discriminator, if target is still there dig, but dig after pulling the toggle back so you can pinpoint, pinpointing is usually right on the money 90% of the time.

This is a deep easy to use machine. Mine talks to me, I can tell iron. That machine will let you know if the target is large iron, or a can because when you pull the loop away it will kind of make a kind of echoing sound and then fade away.

It won't take you long to learn and you will find deep targets, especially if you relic hunt. I find this machine extremely deep when the ground is very saturated, get muddy hands, but all of my deepest targets have been in sopping wet soil.

the tejon is good in wet soil conditions...5.75 coil for trash....learn to ground balance... seems to be best grounded center..not - or + ....great on small items...can be a real do it all machine....good luck

The Tejon is a performer so if you don't wish to be digging down deep all the time
~ adjust the pole height up another pin notch , set the sensitivity at its lowest setting & then raise your sweep up 2 to 3 inches more off the ground .

Youre going to love how lightweight this machine is! Also, if you get into heavily mineralized soils, grab one of the widescan coils tesoro has available for it, works really well.

Learn on the small coil as its easier to learn the tone of coins and trash. If you have a low trash area break out bigger coils then. IndHntr has the right setting. PP with the trigger is a nice feature.

I agree 100% on using the smaller coil! I set my discr. at iron and alt. just below nickle for coin hunting. A solid hit on disc. 1 and no hit on two and I dig for jewelry. solid hit on both and I dig for coins. i get a few pull tabs but i don't mind because i don't want to miss a possible ring. The Tejon hits really hard with a loud pop on nickles; dimes and quarters sound really good with a bit of a squishy sound. Pennies sound somewhat in between. I dig alot of small foil also, but in my opinion, its the only sure fire way not to miss fine jewelry. I use the 5.75 dd and its really boosted my coin count. HH!
