Hi,
I just picked up a White's coinmaster 6000 series 2 detector. I got it , hard case, 2 battery paks, recharger and head phones. I figured this would be a good learning machine. It is virtually unused and the price was right. As my dad used to say I could tear up a anvil with a rubber hammer so I didn't want to spend a lot of money until I tried detecting and saw if I liked it. My question is will this detector be OK for a beginner? I spend a lot of time out in the boonies, mountains, lakes and a few ghost towns and imagine that is where I'll do most of my looking. I figure if I become "addicted" to it I can by a new machine after researching my needs. But I'm pretty sure it will be a Whites detector just because of their reputation.
Any info would be appreciated.

Hi,

I had a White 6000 for years. It was a good machine, but I liked the newer models that have the LED screen, target numbering, tones, etc., so I sold my 6000 on eBay and bought a Whites XLT.

Just remember, you have to dig a lot of trash targets until you learn your detector. Also, get yourself a brass probe and one of those Lesche or Gator diggers.

Happy hunting!

Dave

I already have the probe and digger headed to the house and. They will be there before I get out of the desert here in Kuwait. I figured the learning curve on this one would probably be easier than a new one. But of course it will only take one good find for a person to become "addicted any ways right? As for my arms they could use the exercise as the last 10 years I've been getting paid from the neck up instead of the neck down.
Thanks again Mike

A White's Spectrum XLT most of the time now. Have found lots of coins and etc. with both, but the XLT is much lighter and easier to use, so I don't have to dig as much, but also probably missing some good stuff! I'm 70 and cannot hunt like I used to do and not as many places to hunt now by myself! Hope you do well and God Bless you for your time in Kuwait!

God Bless!
Betty
