Just thought I'd post a not to say hello to everyone. Been in the hobby one whole month and love this detector! Made finds as deep as 11" so far and learn more about it every trip out. Been making finds in a well hunted park so I must be doing something right!

Just got permission for a 1928 house property, looking forward to getting a free schedule so I can hunt that one! Looking forward to learning more....

Not to say hello  Good luck on your 1928 lot . I got permission to hunt a 1938 lot to hunt tomorrow and I am excited .

Take everything here with a grain of salt Sailorman...We mean no injustice...Just pokin' a little fun...Dish it right back at us...Best way to cure the Wintertime blues...

[size=large]with a name like sailorman you're probly an old salt anyway, right?

Oh I take no offence at all! After all while y'all are freezing and dreaming of hunting we'll be searching some parks and lots or plundering tourists jewelry at the beach! Lalala....

I guess I am a bit of an old cuss, errrr salt. 15 years of living aboard a sailboat, done a bit of wandering. 9 huricanes, hit by a water spout, a few other misadventures but also some incredible times. Also some places I'd dearly love to revisit with a detector!

Working on making a permanent move halfway around the world if the funding comes together to a place that might be kinda neat for hunting but we'll see what happens.

Sounds like youre living the life sailorman. Good luck with the AT Pro. I love mine. Just got the Super Sniper coil too which is a 4.5'' coil for get up close to metal without it going crazy. Things like playground equipment. Im sure youve been doing your research.

Was in an old farm field under an old oak. Auto ground balance at that site was 64 running in Pro no disc except iron at 25. Hit an old bullet style lead sinker. I can't remember the number but it had a coin like sound and a strong hit. Must of had quite the halo around it. Hit two wheats under the same tree, a '44 and a '45. One at 6" and the other closer to 8". Both came up as pennies on the ID with good strong tones.

Also found an old screw top Coca Cola cap 1 1/4 " in diameter. It was about 7" deep. The logo checked out between 1941 and 1960 if I remember right. There was no record of that style cap on the companies history site but I found an old timer locally who remembers buying Coca Cola in gallon jugs at the local pharmacies in the summers during tha '40's and '50's. Thought that was kinda cool!

Also got lots of iron trash and can slaw in the area, all from 4 to 8 inches. I work with a tape rule in my hand and can judge distances pretty good. I was still using the VMax probe and on a few targets we finally found them with even the handle end below grade!

Conditions at that site seem perfect for deep targets and I've got permission to return as much as I like. There's a ten acre old farm field and a small stream and I'm itching to spend more time there but it's an hour away and I'm going to have very little free time for the next month.

We worked a site today were I couldn't seem to see any targets past 6". Ground balance was 68, very sandy and trashy and only a little clad found. Same settings and mode.

The big coke cap came from glass gallon jugs that contained the syrup so that you could make your own cola. There was a canister that you put water in, and then a co2 cartridge like they use today in air guns, to carbonate the water. You you then measured out the syrup put into a glass and shot the carbonated water to it.

My aunt and uncle lived out in the country and used to buy the Coke syrup, and made their own so they didn't have to run into town "to trade". I can remember them using their coke making apparatus just one time, and that was prior to the 60's.

During the early 70's Coke came out with a 1/2 gallon bottle, it also had a big cap. These bottles looked like the standard coke bottle to the 10th power. Coke abandoned them after about 2 years. Seems like the deposit on them was a dime.
