New to the F75

Hi guys! My name is George and I just received one of the newest F75's yesterday. I use a DFX most often but wanted to try out the new Fisher and see if I could get some extra depth.

I experienced a lot of interference in my back yard on my first attempt but at a local school I used some of Andy's tips to settle it down. One thing I did notice it that I can't pinpoint consistently to save my life. A couple of finds I'm dead-on and then on some, I can never find the target. Maybe it's my technique - I sweep with the pinpoint trigger pulled and recognize the high tone left to right and center the target - then I move the coil towards me until the tone stops - indicating that the target it at the tip of the coil - or so I thought. Any advice? I've also noticed that the depth was reading much deeper than the target. I went over the hole again after recovering the target to be sure it was empty.

My FX-1 should be here by Friday and that should help me a good bit - I was heavily dependant on my DX-1 for the DFX.

This forum had taught me a lot and I hope to learn even more!

Hi George, try this and see if it helps some. I own a large DD coil for my White's machine and it allows me to pinpoint off the tip of the coil, but with the Fisher coil you need a different technique. On the fisher, the hot spot on the coil is about in the center of the coil, just forward of the shaft. You will see a little circle that has been formed when the coil case was molded. I'm rather certain that little circle is inadvertently there, but still a good guide to use to find the hot spot on the coil. Then try to draw an outline around your target in pinpoint mode. This will mean you'll have to sort of walk a semi-circle around your target so you can get several angles on it, but once you get an outline of it, I think you will dig right to it. You can get the same effect by trying to make an "X" over your target with the coil so you hit it from different directions, but I like the outline method better. It takes a bit of practice, but once you get it right a couple of times, you'll find your target the first time most of the time after that. Just like with any other machine, every once in awhile you'll miss it for some reason, but not too often. Just take the time to get the good outline first. Hope this helps. Jeff

Geo, How did you have it setup? What settings and tone were you useing. Also what was it GB at? One thing that halps me with pinpointing is that you can detune it by moveing the coil a little past the target, then gust pull the trigger agian to detune.

There are actually 3 dots on the top of the coil. The largest of the 3 is the 1st one a little in front of the shaft and coil connection. That dot is the sweet spot for me. In time, even with deep targets, you will find it not necessary to pull the pinpoint trigger all the time. Pinpointing with the stock coil does take some practice. At least it did with me. The Precise and easy pin point on the F75 is awesome once you get the hang of it..Its like taking a big majic marker and Drawing out the target
I agree with the DD stock coil its just right in front of the shaft when pulling the trigger go to the loudest spot and dig it will be straight down
the Depth depends on the coil height just a tic..I find myself not using the pin point so much any more unless its a very tiny or big large target..
It takes a bit of practice ..I just used up my second set of Batterys so I have almost 70 hours on machine..thats hard to beat.:clapping:By any standards..

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I got a chance to play around with pinpointing tonight and I definitely think that circle just in front of the shaft is dead on. I'll have the FX-1 tomorrow so this will help me with those shallow targets before I go hacking the park up.
