New To the Excal, Need Advice.

I should be receiving my new Excalibur II w/the 10" coil in a couple of days and was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions on the shaft. I've read many pros and cons to having a hip mount set-up and was wondering what works best for the people who have been doing this for a while. Shaft extensions, hip mount, stock, entirely new shaft??? Any suggestions would be appreciated... please be specific with not only what route to go with this but also where to buy the shaft/mount from. Thanks

Straight shaft and if U have any kind of manual dexterity build it yourself for under $30.00
If U want 2 go that route PM me for instructions & vendor's

Hi Erickk,
I just picked up a Excalibur 1000, I would like to receive the instructions & vendor's to building a straight shaft.
Thank you,
Tom

I picked up an extra Sovereign GT upper shaft. I stuck a rear extension in the back of it. Works well. I had to drill 1 hole. One for the lower shaft. The Excal snap button is on the side.

Brocifus,
Heres how I made my straight shafts: 7/8" aluminum tubing from ACE hardware and the local marine warehouse carries it also. ACE was cheaper. You need about 4 ft for each straight shaft. Then I went to a bicycle shop and bought their aluminum barends for handlebars. I used the armrest that was on the stock shaft. I used a 1/4" drill bit for all holes and countersunk each hole after drilling (it helps to take away the burrs left from drilling). Use a sharpee to mark the holes to mount your arm rest and control box before drilling(a drill press would be preferred but not necessary, hence marking each side while holding the arm rest and control box steady). I spaced the lower holes on the shaft 1 1/2" from each other starting about 2" from the end of the shaft. Basically your mimicking the stock "S" shaft for the lower holes for the stem and you can place the handle(barend) wherever it is comfortable for you. You will need to decide where you want to mount the control box(I mounted mine about an inch behind the arm rest and 1" from the end of the shaft). Hope this helps and is not too confusing.

Got one of these on all 3 of my units. Great dealer to work with and setup is just right.

Gulf Hunter,

I agree that they are very nice looking. However, I made 3 for the price of one and still have enough left over to make another. Brocifus was asking how to make one.
