Well this is my first venture into Tesoro. Have only used Garrett before (ace 250 - GTI 2500) just buying a Stingray. I plan to go upto the UP of Michigan and hunt in lake superior.

Any tips on this machine or any helpful info on it would be great as I am in the dark but really wanted a water machine to go into the lake. I was gonna go PI but decided to try to get used to no ID display on a slightly less expensive unit :p

Well I realize it is a older detector. I thought some here may have some thoughts. Is there another forum where someone may have any idea on this unit. Or any tips coming from a graphic ID detector.

I don't give advice on detectors I never tried. I have had a Tiger Shark for going on ten years. Never had to ask advice on how to use it, I just read the manual and adjusted discrimination low and then if detector beeped I dug it. I never knew about the internet detecting forums until about three years ago, I always learned my detector by reading the manual and using the detector out in the field or in the water. Just get a good ground balance as this is most important, and keep practicing ground balancing until you can do it without thinking about it. Keep disc low and use it at a good and busy beach and you should find some stuff. Good luck.........

I was a little blunt in my reply.........

But there are no shortcuts to bring you up to speed on a detector. Other than getting a good ground balance and setting disc. to just knockout a rusty nail and digging every good sounding beep.

Thats how I run my Tiger Shark, which is a newer version of the Stingray. I would just read the manual and practice on the beach before venturing into the water. Play around with a coin buried in the sand and learn to pinpoint in disc. mode and you will do fine.
