New to metal detecting

Hi everyone, I am as new as you can get to this hobby, I am trying to buy my first detector and I am trying to decide between a Fischer or a Whites, I don't want to spend a fotune on my first detector, any advice? I live in South Florida, and plan on hunting the beaches and maybe the surf. Thanks to everyone in advance

I'm not sure what a "fortune" is to you, but my suggestions would be:

Low end.....Fisher F2 or Garrett Ace 250

Midrange.....Whites M6 or MXT

Welcome, Masagepro! I second the Ace 250. It is an awesome machine and can be found easily for around $200 brand new. Once you get used to it, you can upgrade to something else.

Whites are a good machine but coil selection leaves something to be desired.
If your just starting out Whites might be a bit spendy for you.
Go with Garretts Ace 250 or the Fisher/FristTexas F2. The Ace is probably the better of the two.

I have an Ace 250 and I love it. I just started metal detecting back in March of this year, but you can see my finds below. But if you are going to go into the water you might want to get a machine that is meant for it,

great find sounds like the 250 is the way to go. I would only be in the surf not in the water

if i had my choice i would go with the mxt....not sure on the price difference there. but anyway you go ..welcome to our addiction we call a hobby and i hope you find lots of good things to show us...
