New to metal detecting

Hello Latybird,

I'm from Michigan so I don't know much about your home state but MaBetty (here on the Christian forum) does! Welcome! Other than Finds Treasure Forum, there's a lot of information available to you @ River City Treasure Club. Membership is free and the material available to you will help you become a better detectorist. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact any number of us here on the Christian Forum. Again welcome to our family!

Hi Latybird and welcome to the forum! I am from Southeast MO but have been in St. Louis, Mo for many, many years, so really don't know of any places in your part of MO! You will need to do like most of us do, ask older people where the swimming holes are, go to the city and town parks (but be sure to find out if detecting is allowed before detecting anywhere and fill your holes and take any trash you find with you and dispose of it properly.....then you won't get into trouble by the park rangers and etc.) You can ask to hunt on private property but be sure to get permission! Just ask others and you will probably be told of many places you might see about and hopefully be able to detect! Should be some Civil War areas down your way unless they are on private land or Gov't owned land that don't allow any hunting...but your best bet is to keep asking people that you see and when detecting there will be those who ask about your hobby so explain it and that you find lost rings and etc. and then you will have places to hunt by finding and returning what they've lost! Hope this helps and May God Bless you to find good areas to go :detecting: and that you will find lots of nice coins and relics, but you will also be digging lots of trash to find the gold and silver rings and so forth! Amen! Ma Betty

We are here to help as much as you need. Just ask and we will do our best to help. I know the St. Louis Parks are popular for old stuff.
Hope you visit here again.

God bless.

Mike

Latybird, A few tips to help you:

Where Do I Go Detecting?

A question most new detectorist ask is "where do I go detecting?" There are countless areas in which you can search, and it is best if you do some research to find the best places. A little time spent in research can add to the success of your hobby enormously. It is easy and lots of fun. Research will guide you to the best gold fields or the most productive sites for treasure hunting.

Here is a list of some of the more productive places to search, but be sure you obtain permission before entering any private property:
Your own backyard
Beach
Showground
