New to Metal Detecting

Danny-n-WV

New member
I'm new to the world of detecting and hope to learn from those who post here. So hope no one minds if in the future I have many questions.

Just got my Fisher F70 today and put it together...turned it on of course....walked out into my small front yard and a minute or so I had my first find...A 1994 Quarter:clapping: And then found another 85-86....dug but I couldn't find the object. Got to get a 9 volt for my pointer and go back and look again. Coolest thing since sandwich bread:bouncy:

Now that you know where they read, you can go places. Metal detect on vacations, find incredible finds, jewelry... only to see it displayed by your other half.
congrats.
HH :beers:

That object could be a hot rock. We are blessed here in WV. with coal, coke and cinders. The later two hit around 85. Sometimes I get a hit on coal and sometimes I don't.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind.....I got a the pointer going but its a bit late to recheck the hole. Will post on what I find...if anything.

Congratulation on the quarter. Danny you can do a lot better than that by going down and metal detecting that old church.

Maybe this will help? http://historical.mytopo.com/index.cfm

Which old church is that? I have several places I remember when I was a young man that have been long since gone that I want to check out. Just a matter of getting to them. Right now I'm just trying to get the sounds and readings into my head. I wasn't kidding when I said I was brand new at this MD-ing:detecting:

I'm just messing with you. WV. is full of old churches which are good places to MD for old coins. I gave you sites to old maps of WV. which might help you.

May your poke be filled with lots of goodies and a few ramps.:detecting:

I looked at the maps and thought what in the world will I do with them. And my goodness with a closer look I see where an old school would have been when my Daddy was born. And I had never heard anyone ever speak of a school there in this area. I knew there had been houses tho. Thanks John 'n' WVa for the maps.

What part of West Virginia are you from? I have been detecting for many years and could help you master some basic techniques that will allow you to get the most out of your detector.

I must say after reading some of the negative comments on the Fisher F70....I 'm wondering if I should have purchased it at all. But I did and am going to make the best of it. I have to admit that I haven't been out yet doing any hard core detecting. I would tho appreciate any info that you can pass along to me. I know absolutely nothing other than what I've been reading in the manual and what I have been reading on this forum. John 'n' W.Va passed along a map or two that have been very useful for me.

Danny....near Logan,WV

I'm beginning to think the negative comments about the Fisher F70 are just that.......my F70 is working just fine it seems to me...it amazes me how it can determine what is in the ground.....or on top of the ground. By the way John'n'WVa thanks again for the maps...they are cool.
