New to metal detecting / rock hounding from South Carolina

I was thinking about getting into metal detecting as a hobby, but I'm retired on a fairly tight budget.

I was considering a low end model detector like a "Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker IV Metal Detector" but on another forum I was told that low end models like that one are mainly just good for finding coins and not smaller tiny pieces of gold, so I might have to put off getting a detector for some time.

Anyhow I'm getting an Estwing E3-22P 22 oz Rock Pick soon so I'll have a good tool for any interesting rocks I find just casually searching visually without using a detector for metal based stuff.

I had found four of what I at first thought might have been meteorites, but after further research probably not, but interesting rocks anyhow !

Anyone familiar with the "Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker IV Metal Detector" ?

Thanks for the info, it does have good reviews, but it costs about twice as much, not that it is a whole lot considering what some people pay for higher end detectors.

Okay, I went ahead and ordered the "Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker IV Metal Detector" it had high customer reviews on Amazon (as well as on Walmart and other sites)

......now it obviously is not going to perform as well as the high end models costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars, but for what it is it got very good reviews overall.

This seems like a good choice for a beginner on a tight budget, I still had some Christmas money I got that I had set aside till I figured what I wanted to use it for, so it is like a time delayed Christmas gift

I figured since the town we live in goes back to the 1770's there should be a fair chance of finding some old coins and relics, and who knows, perhaps a surprise bit of gold once in a while, you don't know unless you try !

You need to look at Kelco they have used metal detectors and they also have where you can use a payment plan on every thing they sell. I started with a Whites and now use a E-trac most of the time. I am also in S.C.

Thanks, I appreciate the info, but I already got the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and am happy for how it does for it's price range.

The ground in my area had been really hard to dig after a long dry spell, but we're getting some good drenching rain this week so hoping to have an easier time of digging when I detect again soon !
