New to metal detecting, can a 6000/D locate Gold?

I just purchased a used 6000/D and I know very little about metal detecting. Can this detector locate gold ore on the surface? And is the 6000/D a good detector or is just out of date?
 
I don't know about finding gold or not, but its a great detector, I bought one when they first came out and still have it. I made a hip mount foe mine to handle almost of the weight, the only thing I swing is the rod and loop. ..........Ken
