New To Metal Detecting and the Forum

Hey Everyone-

I'm new to metal detecting and this forum. I've been researching for some time and finally went out and bought myself a Bounty Hunter QuickSilver. I wanted to get something that was cheap enough to learn on and see if I get serious about the hobby. I went out for the first time on Sunday for two hours to Columbia River bank and dug a few clad coins, and two silver rings! Went out a second time tonight to the same place and dug some more coins and what I think is a pin? It is a cowry shell (possibly fake) fitted to a brass or gold frame. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. Its probably junk but would like any ideas as to what it might be.
