New to me Tejon?

I hunt coins and inland jewelry in disc mode, just to give you an idea of what I will be using the Tejon for. Also I am not new to detecting, just trying to get up to speed on this Tejon.

So reading through the manual last night and doing some of the suggested air testing and all seemed to be okay. But when I was working with the VCO control I couldn't get a handle on using the Tejon with VCO on or off. For my type of hunting does anybody know which would be best for me?

Also anybody have any suggestions for use of the second disc on this machine? Normally on a machine like this I would set the disc just below what I want to find and hunt. With the extra disc I can see running the primary low and then checking the target with a higher disc setting on #2.

If you have a couple of examples (coins and or jewelry) that would help give me some ideas.

The vco is nice because the tone changes depending on depth. Higher for shallow lower for deeper, if that's what you mean.
Second disc has many uses but the most common I've heard (dont own one...yet) is to set you regular disc like you normally do like above iron and the aux disc for up near coins like just below zinc.
When you find a target. You can click the switch to aux and if it still rings in its a higher target, if not you know it's below zinc and above iron.
But there are many uses.

If I recall correctly that model let's you change the audio frequently which is awesome. I like the higher tone of my Bandido II micromax. Just more pleasing to my ears.

To be honest I didn't know that you could control the vco, but my understanding is, other detectors in all metal will sound higher when the object is close and as you move it further is lowers the frequency of the sound.
Try it with vco on and bench test at home. Move it close to the coil and keep moving it while pulling it away from the coil. It helps with knowing depth of target without a readout.

Please everyone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm fairly new to this too.

Set the tone that is good to your ears. VCO only works with all metal. Ground balance with pinpoint and thru then turn ground balance counter clockwise a quarter turn. This increases depth greatly. This messes up your pin point a little but it's worth it. Listen to the sound of the single tone. Good targets are smoother. Iron has a sharp tone. After awhile you'll be able to tell the difference. To bad that doesn't work with foil.

I set my disc to make a nail start to break up. The second disc you could set below nickel letting you know it's a target to dig for coins & jewelry. For just coin set the 2nd disc above pull tab. Go by the first disc. to get the most targets. The 2nd disc is just to let you know it could be a good target.

If you are digging to much foil with the first disc set it to just take out the foil you are digging.

The Tejon is a high frequency detector and is great for jewelry. It will find micro jewelry.

It's a great detector once you learn the variances from that single tone. The other Tesoros like Silver umax, Compadre, Outlaw and older Tesoro's are even smoother in what it tells you but when you learn the Tejon you have the deepest detector and hits the smallest gold.

Good luck with your Tejon and don't give up on it.

I'll never get rid of mine.

First, get a good set of headphones Grey Ghost or similar, nothing less. Your disc(s) get set depending on what you are looking for, that you have to figure out on your own. Sometimes I use disc 2 as a coin check, sometimes as an iron check, sometimes to find nickels. I set mine to run silent in all metal, I know this goes against the book, but it works well and makes the machine run stable in all metal (VCO only works in all metal). I have posted these settings on this forum, using them you will hit a 15 inch quarter and a 12 inch dime solid (1/4 or higher in the scale on VCO). Have fun and here is some more info.

Oldguy, Okay I got the Gray Ghost headphones, I have had them for several years.

So you are actually turning off disk 1 to all metal, running the threshold just below the point you can hear it and then use the disc 2 to check targets. Now that is a vary interesting setup, don't think I would have ever come with that on my on.

I don't even have to give my 2 cents here as it's been well said above. Just take the time to learn the language and enjoy!
