New to me DeLeon any tips?

Just got a used DeLeon off of Ebay. I haven't had much time to try her out, but I did hunt for a few yesterday at a vacant house and found $1.06 in clad in just a few min. Any tips will be appreciated. I don't find much on this machine, on the web. There are no videos on uTube on it. (at least not in english :) ) I may have to post a video when I learn a few tricks with it. Wheatymike

Congrats on the purchase. It has no ground balance, but if you have mild soil it's no big deal. I am interested in the Deleon also, but just have not seen much for depth test on them. Being a uMax series detector though is a big plus- excellent target disc, fast recovery, and just sweet at finding coins.

Hi, If you pay careful attention to the display, and make sure that the little pillars in the bar graph correlate with the numbers, you will not dig much iron.....i.e. if you get a high number reading, swing a few times over the target to see in the bars indicate the same. Do not ignore the audio....if there is a good audio signal and an iffy visual readout, unless you have identified it as iron, dig. Read the manual until you are sure you know the ins and outs of the detector, then read it again.:) Good luck, you have a very good machine.

Thanks for the replies. I did a quick air test for depth comparison with my Vaquero. On my 10k gold ring, the DeLeon will hit clean at about 9 in. The same ring on the V. about 10 in. Clad dime on the DeLeon about 7.5 inches. The same dime on the v. 9.5 inches. That is with a good clean diggable signal. One thing I did notice is when I get an iffy signal in disc, I can check it in all metal and it seems to read on the id. a little more accurately.

Sorry, I didn't say in my last post. That test was with the 5.75 concentric on both machines. I haven't tested the stocker on the DeLeon yet.

I've had one for several years and it's one of my favorites. Depth is several inches deeper than my other umax detectors with comparable coil sizes and the ID is as accurate or better than other machines I've used, and down to pretty decent depth. Mine seems to run the best with the sensitivity set less than max - somewhere in the 7-9 range. If and when you get multiple target indications that are mostly coin mixed with some trash, always dig. Two or three times out of five you'll be swinging over a coin spill. Hope this is useful.

Thanks Bill. I have notiched that the numbers on most targets jump around a lot is this usual for this machine. I have never owned a numarical ID machine so I don't know, maybe they all do that. I have learned to look at the bar segment for info and use the numbers as a general area to complement the bar segment. Like tabs are in the general area between 40 and 60.

The Deleon is a high gain and very sensitive machine, I'm sure "LIFT COIL" and arrows pointing up have shown up on your display screen. I have found that by raising the coil and making short sweeps directly over the target settles the jumpng numbers somewhat. Other than running Disc, on a low setting (I like between Min. & Iron) and not getting carried away with Sens. settings, the best tip or trick is coil control. Lifting the coil is explained in the manual for correcting overload when a target is too close to the coil, but they do not suggest doing the coil wiggle over the target while slowly lifting the coil over the target. Try that... and I hope it works for you, HH

Dig Dig Dig it is a great machine never stops giving up the cool finds I have had mine for 10 years come Aug. here is some of my finds with it I have found well over 100 rings all on dry land
