New to me CZ70 Pro.

After a disasterous affair with an AT PRO, my brother sold me his CZ70 Pro at a really good price.

I have been doing some reading and it seems like it should be able to keep up with or surpass the AT PRO I was using.

In my reading I have come across one thing that does concern me. And it has to do with the serial number/performance.

I read in a post that some serial numbered CZ70 Pros will go deep and allow for a sensativity over 4 on the dial. These being the "good" ones. The other serial numbers are suposedly stuck at a senativity of 4 or they become unstable and start falsing.

I don't know which serial number I have as the detector is at my brothers house, but my question is, if I do have the one with the sensativity issues will it still punch deep like CZ's are supposed to?

Either way I am happy, the detector is in great shape and my brother found some nice things with it, I was just curious about that one issue.

Also, where in the world can I get ahold of a instructional video? I know I can download the manual but I am a see it/do it type person.

Thanks for any insight you may have.

First off all CZ's are deep. But it has been my experience that the 112 serial numbers were hotter than the 102 serial number detectors as they could be ran up to 6 sens. with out falsing instead of 4. I have heard some disagree with this assessment,But in my ground this was true. Regardless you will love the CZ-70 Pro as it is super smooth and deep on coins period! I would leave my disc. at 0 and use the tones to decide what to dig. And I personally like to leave my volume at 4 where the deeper targets sound softer and dig the deeper softer tones as that is mostly where the older coins are deep! This is the way I like to run my CZ's as some like to turn the volume up not to miss any targets and adjust the headphones you will see what works for you. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks brother, I am excited to get out. We still have a ton of snow on the ground but I am moving up north to a city that was established in 1668 and my parents own 40 acres on an island that was right in the middle of native american/french fur trade country. I am pumped.

Hi Harold, I have a CZ70 Pro, with the # 112, Can you give me some tips on using it? I have all of the coils, 5" 8" and 10". witch do you think is best? I have had this detector about 3 years and used it two or three times. Seams like all of the star hits are trash, if i run sens. on 4 will that help with falsing? I have been trying to run it as high as i can and be stable. Any help please, Thanks Flintstone

Not to insult as giving basic info that one may well already know, let me suggest a couple things. Everyone doing CZs needs to see NASA Toms DVDs and read his articles. Second check the coil(s). Air test with any coin, dimes seem to be most standard, nickels are closer to gold and quarters will give the most distance and you might feel better with that. Air testing is only good to get relative performance so don't take it too seriously. It can be VERY helpful to check for a bad coil. I am sure others have better ways to check, but this is how I do it. Push the coils of the cable so there are a few inches extra slack, I set up with the CZ laid down so I can have hands free to rotate the cable a few inches up form the coil while swinging the coin side to side. If you get noise or a drop in performance as you do this you are getting an intermittent continuity issue and should look for a new coil or send it in to be repaired. This should work with any machine and it is certainly not original to me. It is basic and again I apologize if it is already obvious to you but my impression is most of us are reinventing the wheel as we go and sometimes this kind of thing get overlooked. It was for me for quite awhile.

Couple of things not mentioned......for superior depth a slow swing is best.
Practice ground balancing in your backyard using the bobbing method until you get the hang of it...
Max out sens. and volume while balancing so you can hear the changing of the tone for an accurate balance and once in the field a couple of bobs and your good to go.
Whoops after balancing set the sens. and volume to your spec's for optimum performance.
PS: google Mikes CZ page as its a bible for CZ users....

Flintstone run your disc. at 0 volume at 4 and sens.4-6 which ever runs smoother. Be sure to do this after ground balancing the bobbing method like Dan said. Listen for the deep repeatable softer high tones that pinpoint narrow as these are deep coins mostly. As far as the relic or star icon dig those deeper softer sounds if you are in an older area that might have Fat Indians or other super old coins as this is where they read. But rite now I would just concentrate on the deep soft repeatable high tones. Tom D. does have a great article he wrote on the CZ-70 Pro on his website. Also A guy Chris from Ohio knows a lot about this model you can PM him hear or on Tom's forum.
