New to MD - Targets that Jump Wildly

I recently purchased an ACE 250 and have been fortunate to have some good success with it over the last few months (before the snow hit in Ontario, Canada that is). Can some of the more experienced dectorists comment on targets whose ID's jump wildly on a detector.

For example, with discrimination off and my sensitivity set half-way, I often encounter targets that jump from nickle to penny to silver back down to nickle, etc. From countless digging I've noticed that these targets tend to be junk - I assume their alloy content is causing this erratic reading.

What's the general opinion on targets that give off a different ID on multiple swings across? I always dig targets that may jump one notch but I'm finding it harder to want to dig targets that jump all over my ID range.

Thanks!

Far more often then not, those "wildly" jumping numbers will be trash. If, however, you get two or three numbers that pretty much repeat the same with each swing, I always dig those if one of the numbers is a good coin number. This morning, as an exhample of this, I got readings on my F 75 of 67-68, 44-46 and 73-74. 73-74 readings are usually a silver dime on my 75, so I dug it. In the clod, all within a inch of each other was a silver Rosie, a zinc cent and a broken ring tab. Good luck and HH jim tn

does the ace 250 have target i.d. in all-metal. some machines do and some don't. on the sovereign you get a # on the meter in all-metal but it has nothing to do with the type target but you can tell the depth of the target.

Those trashy signals that can cause jumpyitisouchymommas, hence the term "dig repeatable signals".
If I get an iffy, sometimes tries to repeat, I'll hit the target from different angles (North/South - East/West), and at times completely circle the target and shorten the sweep width - never know if another target may be masking - multiple targets under the coil. Of course, the ultimate is to dig and find out. And if ya dig and find some junk, always re-scan as there may be another targets in there.

as found on the Garrett Ace, GTAx, GTP, GTI, most Bounty Hunter/Fisher models, Minelab X-Terra's, Tesoro's DeLe
