Hi All,
I sure hope this thread belongs here and not somewhere else!
I live on a few acres in the Colorado high-mountain wilderness not too far from Cripple Creek, CO. My young family and I are die-hard bow hunters, river fishers, and campers. Each summer I spend time on snow-melt rivers or discovering old prospect holes in the woods while hiking and wonder why I haven

Kellyco sent me a pre-order email the other day about the AT/Gold and it was under $700.00. Prospecting is out of my area, I'm just a coin shooter so far. Hoping to find some jewelry one of these days. Good luck and happy hunting for you and your family. With your bows and your metal detectors.
I went to school in Denver in 1969 and worked at the King Super's Supermarket and between school and work I never got to get out and experience Colorado like I wanted to. It's a beautiful state. My Dad's stepson went up into the mountains with his geology teacher and brought back some gold nuggets and iron pyrites. Don't they have a huge Mushroom festival every year at Telluride, Co, an old mining town?
Seems like Louis L'Amour wrote several novels with Cripple Creek, Co., in the general location.

MSRP on the AT Gold is 799.00 but as fongu stated the dealers will be lower than that ....679.00 is what I remember on pre-order without looking it up.

Nobody can really give you any perspective on the AT Gold yet, cause its not in our hands yet, hopefully its better than sliced bread:hot:. You mentioned the Scorpion which you would have to talk to a Scorp owner for that advice cause it's not just a pick up and go detector, and does have a longer learning curve.

I don't see you doing any real serious prospecting with the ACE 250 in the mountains of Colorado, it wasn't designed for that, not that somebody hasn't tried it, I am sure there has.

You know best the size of the gold in your area and your budget. You would have to use that info to see which machine suits your needs best.

Good Luck

QH

I think you would be well suited for a nice gold machine, place to look is kellyco.com great prices and lots of extras with gold detectors HH Wayne

Thanks All!
I think I will go with the Scorpion. The AT Gold is too pricey (But seems very very nice) and the AT Pro seems less suited for gold.
I'm still interested in anyone's thoughts but agree with QTRHRS that my wallet will rule the day. I looked at Kellyco and they sure load on the extras!
I think I will wait a few days but the Scorpion seems the favored MD

Get the AT Gold.
Watch the YouTube videos on the AT Gold and I think
you will be sold on it. It Does both coin and gold nugget hunting.
It is demostrated on the YouTube...you'll see how easy it
is to use.

For a first detector for gold work I would be inclined to hold off on the AT Gold because it is brand new to the market and is based around the AT Pro. The AT Pro had significant problems so wait a while maybe.
The Scorpion has been around for yonks and is a proven gold finder but it will test your patience in extreme iron mineralisation (speaking from an Australia point of view) and you will spend a bit of time getting used to it when you are new to detecting. Having said that it is Garretts second best gold detector, second to the infinium and the AT Gold has yet to prove its ability in the gold fields. If it lives up to the hype it will be a great machine that you can use anywhere.

[size=large]it's your wallet and time. the fisher gold bug has a great rep with prospectors. a video on you tube compares the differant brands. i think
it's," Finding Gold vIII". you may have to go used to get the best machine for your wants. a couple of good nuggetts gets you new machines and off you go.
i think garrett is one of the brands this guy shows.

From the land of the Bluenose.....good luck on your choice of machines. Be one with it and if possible older is sometimes better then newer. 40 years a Garrett bouy.
