New to Hobby

Hi,
I am expecting UPS to deliver my AT Pro tomorrow. I am new to the hobby. I bought my daughter a bounty hunter Pioneer EX about 5 years ago. We dusted it off and brought down to our beach house on the Outer Banks of NC. We combed the beach for a half an hour and I became hooked.....I guess it doesn't take much to get excited because all we found were some corroded dimes and pennies. The thought of uncovering something old and mysterious gets my heart pumping. On my third hunt with the Pioneer EX I found a Philippine coin which I thought had a date of 1888. Here's the bad news, my daughter looked at it and corrected my vision,it was really 1988. One number off!!!! That's when I decided to order my AT Pro, and a magnifying glass.
My last few visits to the beach resulted in absolutely no targets. I am assuming that the weather has dumped lots of new sand on the beach burying everything too deep. I am excited to try the AT Pro to see if my targets increase. I also can give everybody a report on how it reacts for me in the salt water.
My first question to the forum: Do you believe that a metal detector could attract the attention of sharks? I plan on getting out on some sandbars at low tide. The Outer Banks has lots of marine life. Has anybody read anything about this subject? Is it a bad idea? I don't won't to end up on that show, I Survived !

Thanks

Lol! That funny. It's all funny till someone gets hurt......... Then it's hilarious !!!! Lol
I wouldn't think so but who knows.
Let us know how it goes!!

The fresh water lakes I hunt are very clear. Lots of fish gather around my coil. Then when I scoop they all go after and eat all the little niblets I stir up. They also like to nip at my legs. Like a mosquito bite you scratched - they will keep the scab eaten off. Sometimes it feels like they pricked you with a pin. I imagine a shark will take a bigger bite.

hello Germanshep. I don't know much about sharks but welcome to the hobby. You may take some good natured tormenting over the shark question. but these are some good people here. be sure to post your finds when you can and best of luck to you.:detecting:

Thanks for the welcome. I am glad to provide some chat room fodder. I'll let you know how my new Lesche Digging tool does as an anti-Shark Knife.

I can't wait for the AT Pro to get here tomorrow. I am 46 years old and I feel like it's Christmas Eve and the UPS man is Santa. We love our toys!

Awesome thought! Where's Quint and Chief Brody when you need them? Picture a Great White tooth embeded in your coil. Picture the Garrett gals standing at the shore face in awe of your encounter (and you). Picture yourself on the cover of the next Garrett Catalog holding a new pro pointer ( a Garrett Gal on each shoulder) for the find of the month/year.

Ahhh, the possibilities are endless when you do the "Wiggle", the Garrett DD Wiggle :wiggle:

Welcome to the forum.
