Hello! I am new to the group and just wanted to introduce myself.
I have been meaning to buy a new MD for years and finally got my XT-70 a few days ago. Took it out today for a few hours to get to know the machine and pinpointer and dug some junk and trinkets. The plan is to keep testing it and learning all the functions so I can learn what to dig and what not to dig....lots of functions on the machine!
I have read through many of the posts on this group and have learned a lot already.
Hopefully before the snow flies here in MN I can make it over to my grandmothers house and do some detecting.....old farmhouse built in 1865, hopefully I will be able to locate a few cool items!

Good luck with the hunt Jason and welcome aboard.
Mick Evans.
P.S. Play around with your detector at home before you go out with it. Put some coins on the ground as well as some pieces of metal junk ie foil, cans, scrap iron, and bottle tops, just to become familiar with how the detector responds to each target. It will help to be familiar reduce some of your learning time.

Thanks for the input Mick! I actually did round up a nice collection of random metal items and built a "test" area, I will continue to work it and learn how the detector responds :)

Hi Jason,
I'm new to the hobby, been since April. It took me a few weeks to even start to figure what the machine was telling me. I learn a new sound or twist every time out.
If you have not yet bought more coils yet, you should research them a bit before pulling the trigger. It appears that the best coils in WA. may not be the best coil in NY, TX or MN.

If you are Buying a new machine you probably had an old machine and a huge headstart me.

These guys have helped me out a ton.

Good Luck
Jeff
