Hi all, my name is Kevin Head from Round Rock, Texas. I have been reading these forums like a stalker. :) I finally took the dive and bought the AT PRO. Hopefully it will get here next week. My plans for this MD is the trip I have coming up June 9th to 21st to Puerto Rico and the island of Vieques.

Has anyone visited or metal detected Vieques beaches? I personally go there often and this time I thought why not take a crack at metal detecting the beaches. :) Hopefully my choice of going with an AT PRO was a good one.

Anyway I thought I would introduce myself. :)

Kevin good luck on your trip, hope you find a pot of gold and have to rent a barge to get it back to Texas
Joe from north Texas

Kevin, Let me know how the AT Pro works out for you. I am trying to convince my wife how bad I need one maybe you can help
Good Luck
Joe

Joe, it took a lot of convincing my wife too! I just hope that luck be on my side and I can at least find something of value so I can be like "told you baby that it would not be a waste of money". :)

Okay, Kevin, here's the drill. Sneak online to Craigslist, buy a nice gold lady's ring, take it to Puerto Rico with you, drop it under the coil and then shout out with great discovery and surprise, "Sweetie, will you look at what I found you!" Yeah, that should square you in her eyes.

Hello Kevin i am from Puerto Rico all i can tell is the i have detected just about all the beaches back home but never Vieques i move from PR. To Miami And know i Live in Canada
let me know how you do!!
Best Of Luck

Hi Friend! We have been to Puerto Rico twice, once in April and once in October. April the beaches were full of trash targets and not much jewelry, October I only got to hunt for about an hour before a storm came in and the waves got too rough to hunt, but I found 2 nice rings in that hour. In April we stayed on Calebra Island and I hunted the Flamenco beach every day and night when we wern't diving and I found a 1/2 ounce medallion and one small wedding ring. The beach as I said was full of trash. In October in the short time I got to hunt there were very few trash targets and a lot of coins. I think we found about $36,00 in change, a couple silver rings and the two gold rings. Haven't been on the other island, should be ok. As far as the AT Pro goes, I took mine to Grand Cayman island in April this year and it worked flawlessly for about an hour in the salt water, and about 15 minutes in the dry sand for a second hunt before it went crazy. Luckilly I too my Excal II with me as well as my F75 LTD. This was my third AT Pro, and it's replacement has been At Garretts for over a week now. When it works you will be amazed, when it goes out it's gone. There are still a lot of bugs in them. Set you ground balance manually to 13-17, sensitivity down a couple notches under full, and hunt in Pro Mode Zero and have fun. It will hit as hard on a target as my Excal II, with the advantage of digital readout. If you get a chance, take the ferry over to Calebra and hit Flamenco beach. If you want I can send you a list of beaches and some details that I researched before we went. If I go back it will be in the fall again. Seems to be better conditions. Good luck and happy hunting! Earl Johnson.

Kevin just got back from a wonderful week in Vieques with my family we did some detecting there not as mush as I would have liked though. Sun Beach is riddled with trash and clad it will keep you busy digging. Gonna be hot there right now bring gobs of sunscreen. Have you been to vieques before? where are you staying? My folks have been numerous times this was the first for my family. Good luck have fun Lotsa good eats and drink people are very friendly. Chris

Hi Earl, just a little deeper into my past I was born and raised in Ceiba, PR. Just in the past few years I have taken friends and family to PR and finally Vieques (our favorite). We came close to buying a house there. It worries me a lot the bugs with the unit but then again with anything new model there will be unknown hiccups. I just hope that I get lucky with this unit and it performs as described.

I love Culebra Island but we wont be there much if any this trip. This time we are taking our 3 kiddos so we will only do Bio Bay and thats about it besides swimming the beaches of Vieques. Well, your finds bring hope that I could find some cool stuff. :)

Hi Chris, we rented the "At the waves" location. Normally we stay in Esperanza area at Bananas or Case De Tortuga. I am so excited to give this a try since you just never know what you may find in such a place with so much history. So Chris what did you find on your trip?

Kevin

Kevin we gathered about $25 in change I got a 20 dollar bill in one of the scoops going after a coin spill, one silver ring and lots of jhunk jewelry biobay was sweet, we stayed on the otherside of the island near isabella at casa ladera google it next time you go it is a great place 2 minute walk to glass beach enjoy your trip

Cool, we will give it a look. Its always good finding new places to stay.

Well thanks to everyone for the replies. I will post back with all my finds. :) Bye for now and thanks again for the tips.
