Hi all,
I'm Chuck from Utah. I've been detecting since the early 80's Most of my finds has been with the Tesoro Inca. Among my best finds in a 1916d dime and a 1931s wheat. I call my Inca my bread and butter machine. I have never found a silver dollar though.
A few months back, I purchased the e trac. On my first outing, I found a merc and a silver ring. Since then, I haven't had very good luck. Just clad coins. I've re-read the manual many times over and I'm still confused about its operation. I think in time I'll get more use to it. It seems to be a very good detector. I have also read the manual by Andy a few times over. I tried creating a pattern with silver coins and a wheaty, Indian head penny and a buff. nickel. When I got to the park I loaded the pattern.
Ground cancelled and started detecting. I got some very high FE numbers like 35 and alot of false signals. I assume I did something wrong setting up the pattern. I set it up according to the instructions. Anyway I didn't find anything.
I just wanted to drop in and say Hi. It looks like people are finding alot of great finds back east. When I see people find nice finds it makes me wish I was back there too.

Cheers, Chuck

Hey Chuck,

Welcome. I am Louisiana and have the benefit of hunting old plantation sites. The best mode and audio I use is the Relics mode utilizing the two tone ferrous as set by article on this forum. I have had a lot better success with open screen and just utlilizing the audio. Find the TTF article in the Etrac forum and give it a run. I think you will like it.

Hi Chuck.

Glad to see you here. You've made some great finds with those key dates. Probably would have to know what some of your settings are, firstly are you hunting in Auto or Manual sensitivity? There are a number of hunters from Utah on here, maybe you'll be able to get with someone close to you. Sounds like you been reading Andy's book, so that's real good. Ask away.

Good luck with your new machine Chuck ! :detecting:

Welcome Chuck! I wouldn't get to carried away with the settings. Set the threshold to your liking and just leave it in the factory coin mode and put the sensitivity in auto with a +3 and you should be good to go till you get use to the beast.

Give it a little time. It took me a long time to get comfortable with my ETrac and really understand what it is telling me.

Welcome to the ETrac club!!!

Sounds great! I read some where else where someone does very well in the Relic mode. I haven't been out hunting lately because of the extreme heat and work. One place I thought of hunting is Liberty Park in SLC but it is loaded with trash. And I might be better off in a pretty much trash free area. I can tell that its going to take time to get used to the e trac. The difference is like night and day compared to my older VLF's.

Everything I've been running so far has been in the Auto. Even the sensitivity. I may switch to manual if I don't get too much falsing.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. It sounds like I need to get out and do more hunting. Soon as the weather cools a little. I am very impressed with the depth on it.

Welcome Chuck! Don't worry, everything will fall in to place with a bit of time and practice. The ET is my favorite land-hunting machine. Once you understand what it is telling you, it really is hard to beat.

If you have specific questions about operation, or a problem you are facing, this forum is the best place I know to find some guidance.

Let us know how you get along and if we can help. In the meantime, keep swinging and most importantly, have fun! -Marc
