New to Forum / New MXT 300

Hi Folks, Yes - I'm new to the forum BUT not to MDing. Back in the 70's I purchased an A.H Electronics Pro (one of the first discriminators) and have used it off / on over the years. The result has been an impressive accumulation of coins and relics. Actually, I still have everything I ever found - don't know why - just can't seem to part with it.

The old detector still works but the oscillator tends to drift and has become an annoyance to constantly re tune. So after some (lots of) research, I put the old A.H. Pro to rest and bought an MXT-300, Eclipse 6 X10 DD, 10" DD, Sunray Pro Gold headset, Garrett Pro Pointer and Predator Digger.

All I can Say is - Get outta my way I"M ready to go.:usaflag:

Welcome aboard the MXT forum !:whites:

While you have selected an excellent model, I don't think you're quite fully equipped.

If you've contended with the 'thirty-something" detector then you've got the patience to hang in there to learn and master the MXT. I started in early '65 and while I have hung on to a few favorite finds, I wasn't able to hang onto all my recoveries. Parted with them to hep with medical bills (6 kids), or to buy guns and ammo (I hunted a lot and shot regularly when a law enforcement officer), and naturally to latch onto most detectors along the way to keep up with what was current in technology, best performing for my needs, or just plain 'fun-to-use.'

A Predator or Lesche Digger is a must-have. the Garrett Pro-Pointer is, definitely, the best hand-held pin-pointer available today and one hangs on my detecting equipment best, also. My hearing assistance is also the SunRay Pro Gold or Killer B Wasp (basically the same) headphones.

Of the three coils you have acquired, the 300mm or 12" Concentric, the elliptical 6X10 Double-D (Wide Scan) and 10" Double-D, I have settled on the 12" concentric as my preferred go-to coil for working the very open, low-target sites such as plowed fields. I've had/use all the coils White's makes for the MXT and the 12" is the best larger-size coil for me and my needs.

What I question is how you 're going to like these three and how closely they might compare for your type of hunting. I also question your success rate in a variety of sites, to include any that are brushy or rather littered with either modern-day trash or just nails and small iron infested. Why? Because you didn't add a smaller-size coil to the mix.

It will be interesting, to me, to follow your posts and comments as you work with the MXT and coil assortment you have to get your take on the effectiveness and efficiency of these coils in the field. I'd suggest you give some thought to adding one more coil to your arsenal to handle other conditions better, such as the excellent 5.3 Eclipse. This 6

Welcome aboard! You're going to love that MXT. This is a great place for help and we've got a lot of wonderful people here. HH, Nancy

Have fun getting to know your new machine. I agree with Monte, on the 5.3 coil and the Lesche digger. As to a pinpointer, I have the Sunray DX-1 on my MXT which adds a bit of extra weight, is a bit spendy, but out performs any separate handheld pinpointer that I've ever used and it shows on the display the same as the coil. With a good mix of coils and the 3 modes available on the MXT you've got one of the most versatile, easily used detectors available today IMHO.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Now that I have most of the new gadgets to hunt I neglected to acquire something to carry everything in while I hunt. Before the MXT, it was just the detector and a knife. I was looking at a leather pouch by SunRay - has anyone used one of these?? I think the relic hunters supply has them.

Your point suggesting the 5.3 eclipse is well taken. I was originally going to purchase the MXT with the 950 coil, but in the white's offer for a coil, bag and pointer - the 6 X 10 eclipse was not offered. I wanted the 6 X 10 for occasional gold detecting. Well the bottom line is - I bought the MXT-300 with the 12" coil - purchased the 6 X 10, and selected the D2 in White's offer. This was actually the best value for the $$$ that fit my needs. The 5.3 is actually one of the least expensive coils available, so I'll add it soon.

Welcome to the MXT forum, and the MXT. I have three detectors and the MXT is the best for me hands down.

It sounds like you have everything but the kitchen sink. I use the same detector, pinpointer and digger and I think they are the best. I started detecting in 1972 with a COIN MASTER. I belong to a detecting club and over the years have meet alot of nice people out detecting. Good luck with your new toys.:detecting:
