Went from a ace to a explorer se im kinda over excited and only been out a hr with it didnt do much of digging kinda felt like i was doing something wrong compared to the ace any ideas how to learn this machine besides spending time with it?

Go to http://www.minelabowners.com/forum/content/ and join. Then download the emulator.
You can experiment with it on your computer and learn how to get around the menu, etc...

[size=large]you really went from baby step to giant leap there. it's gunna take a lot of time and patients on your part to really get to know the SE.just running in the turn on and go mode you'll find more faster and deeper than the Ace. don't go getting fancy on yourself. leave the bells and whistles alone for a while and just learn the sounds and screen. getting the book, The Minelab Explorer and E-Trac Handbook, by Andy Sabisch will help a great deal. it's much better than the manual. practice on the emulator and you'll start to see things better. it's just like learning the Ace but it's big boy stuff. will really help if you can find someone in your area that owns one and will hunt with you. and when they say slow that's just what they mean. the Explorer is a slow moving machine but the finds are very surprizing.

Go slow. Swing it slowly. Swing it very slowly. Take some change with you and drop a few coins on the ground to practice. Check out the links and practice, practice, practice. The Minelab site has a cool emulator feature that you can download to practice on your computer. I know it sounds silly, but it really will help you get used to the controls and what they do. You can also play with it when you can't detect to learn the sounds. My jump was not nearly as big as yours but I am finding stuff like crazy. I know I am hunting primarily in the turn on and go mode but it is good even used that basically.

Good luck, Don
