New to Explorer - Probe question

I just bought a brand new Explorer XS, it had been sitting around for years. It had never been taken out of the box. The rechargeable battery pack doesn't work, i guess the batteries were to old. I put new AA's in the battery pack and it works like a charm. I took it in the back yard this morning and went to dig my first target and fired up my Detector Pro pistol probe and discovered the pistol probe and the XS don't get along at all. I moved the coil 6 feet away and still a problem. I am either going to have to turn off the XS when using the pistol probe or get something else. If I get an in-line probe are there modifications that have to be made to the upper shaft?? Not sure how that works and will the in-line probes work with the XS?? Thanks for any help, Randy

I never had pistol probe but it should work! my friend had with quatro, push noise cancel button on xs an try to regulate on pistol probe, but again never had pistol probe so cant say exactly. to switch xs off its not logical and comfortable, if you will not succeed to merry pistol prob with xs buy garret pro pin pointer or sun ray pin pointer but sun ray will add weight to your not light xs and you will have to modificate --drill hole-- in upper shaft, but it will work like Small coil and you will hear targets with different sound its very useful. Garrett pro very good and will not add weight to detector and you can use with all detectors what you have... but before try to make friends with your pistolp. its good pin pointer and you all ready have it... good luck

Thanks stasys,
I played around some more and I just have to move the XS as far away as I can without taking the headphones off and that seems to have done the trick. I was just not used to moving my detector that far away. I will stick with my pistol probe, it has been a very good probe. Thanks for your help. Randy

Little late for this info. I just joined the forum. If you are getting cross talk between the XS and the pistol probe try this:
Go to the advanced menu and select "noise". Turn on the probe and XS so you can hear the interference. Scroll through the channels until you get a clear channel, and go. Noise cancel button should do this for you, auto.
