I finally made the move to Minelab E-trac. I bought a Nice used one and going to take it out today... hoping to find where the coins read. Being that I am not sure where things read I am sure to dig up something strange today. I think I am going to enjoy this newer Toy.

Good luck with your new machine !

I found a deep target all tangeled in the roots. After cutting roots and digging for a while I was getting kind of fustrated. out of the bottom of the hold I find a square nail and a penny.

Just be sure to not do what I did and make it more complicated than it actually is. I strongly suggest the Andy Sabich book as it puts a lot of the info in laymans terms

Hey..that was my Penny...give it back...you can have the nail!!............you can come and dig roots and clean the garden!!!

I think your focal point here should be that your machine found you a penny that was next to a square nail. Square nails mean old ground, and that penny could have just as easily been a flying eagle, an indian, or a silver coin. Lots of other machines would have passed it right over with iron on it like that.

Yeah, sooner or later, the OP'er will learn the extreme value of this!

Pretty steep learning curve, but it is a great machine. Good Luck!
not at all! the etrac is a take out of the box and go machine, not diificult at all! First off learn to use it in multi tones right off the bat. The etrac is more than capable at finding 8-9" deep coins without changing a single setting, just by using the factory coin modes. Don't make it difficult, and do NOT wait for perfect numbers on the screen, numbers can AND WILL bounce around and vary depending on if their is trash or iron closeby. Just dig a LOT of targets and learn what your new machine is telling you. The second number (CO number) is far more important that the first one if your running in a coin mode or a modified disc pattern. DO NOT get hung up on digging only targets that fall on the 12 line, because coins can be anywhere from 01 all the way to the 20's (first number which is the FE) depending on depth, ground minerals, coadjacent targets etc

Listen to G4E....he's a guru. Also, check out his website. He has a lot of useful information on there.

Mascard I left the penny out there by that tree. Now all you have to do is go on a treasure hunt to find it.
