Just ordered a bounty hunter pioneer 202 yesterday. I have never metal detected before and cant wait to start. Any tips or suggestions?

Well I suggest you read a lot... there is much information in this and other metal detecting forums. If you don't like reading.. well there are like 5 or 6 instructionla videos on metal detecting in youtube.... search them up they are english and very well done/

Welcome to metal detecting! Be patient when learning what your machine is telling you and make sure you have good digging and filling in technique. A proper digging tool helps. Most of all keep it fun and remember some days out hunting are just better than other days. Finally, location is key. Good luck! HH. Matt

One more place I found I dont think too many others have tried. The Township I live in has a dumping site for clean fill meaning dirt left over from Township projects. This dirt could be from anywhere. First time I detected these piles I found two wheaties. HH. Matt

Proper target recovery and filling in your holes should be at the top of your list on things to learn. A pin pointer either top of the line or from Harbor Freight is a must if you want to keep your holes small and time spent recovering a target to a minimum.

I work 2nd shift and I find hunting local parks and beeches in the mornings the ideal time, because no ones around. Should you come across a park employee 9 times out of 10 they love to talk about what your doing rather than work. I hunt school grounds on Sunday mornings because if theres employees around they seem to think they own the place and they can tell you where to go. And they can.

One other thing I love to do is take a day off work and follow a planed out route and hit as many one horse towns looking for their parks and doing a quick detecting scan to see if their worth detecting. Today I hit 5 towns driving a little over 100 miles. Of those 5, one had a crappy run down ball park that has never seen a detector. It was as if every sweep of the coil hit a coin; wore me out. I saved it to my favorites in my Garmin, I'll be going back several more times this year, it needs cleaned out.:detecting:
