New to Detecting and My New MXT-300. First two hunts.

I just got into Metal Detecting and think I did pretty good for my first two times out learning my new MXT-300. The items to the left of the wrench were found on my first day out and my first time ever picking up a metal detector. The items to the right of the wrench are from my second day dectecting in the same place at the same school. Oh, by the way, I found the wrench also on the second day. Now, if I can learn the Prospecting program and after I buy the 6X10 DD coil, watch out GOLD here I come. I'm going up to Northern California in gold country and I hope I can find something. But just the peace alone is going to be worth it.

You have never detected before, and picked up an MXT with that huge coil? Man, you must have the patience of a saint! When I first got mine, all I had was the 9.5" coil, and I was ready to launch the thing into the river!

You have a good coin count there. I would be hard pressed to keep up with that. I even see some nickels, which is a good sign you are going for the right signals.

I have never prospected yet, but I have been fooling around with that mode lately. If you can stand the constant chatter, it may be the best setting of all to pick out good stuff. I got a nickel on edge at about 5", and there was a big iron strap beneath it, more massive than that wrench you found. The prospecting mode may be a good tool to use in iron infestation, such as an old house with a bunch of roofing nails laying around.

Scott, I found the items without headphones on also. I am looking into buying some headphones, but think I might buy them on Ebay. I found the same Koss headphones Whites sells for $100.00 for buy now at around $41. Hmmmm, I think that purchase for me is going to be a no brainer. If you are looking into getting headphones, lookup Koss on Ebay. If you already have some, your ahead of me. I'm thinking about going to the beach on my next outing. I'll keep you posted and thanks for the response.
