New to detecting, already hooked!

Howdy. I am new to the hobby. Just got my first detector. BH Tracker IV. Found this at an old ice harvesting plant in Pennsylvania. It was a site served by a small gauge railroad to ship the ice out after harvest. This was my first hunt ever. Found it about two inches down. I think it is a piece of door hardware from a boxcar. Can't make out too much of the identifiers on it yet. Definitely says Q & C co, Chicago. Going to clean it up and research it a little more.

I have also done some very quick tot lot hunting while my son played on the swings. Maybe 15 minutes total. Found 3 lincoln cents, all pre 1982, so coppers, and one was a 1945 wheat. Only found one pop top!

I love this machine. I fear I may be spoiled though by my first find. Going to be hard to top.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Yes, once you get involved in this hobby and start finding the goodies it gets addicting. Next to my wife, metal detecting is my second passion. My wife sometimes feels like she's a metal detecting widow but she's a good sport about it and she's willing to share me with my second love.

Howdy! Welcome to the hobby and our family of Bounty Hunter users.

Nice find. Yep, you're hooked.

The first step to heal yourself is to admit you have a problem........but you're metal detecting now so you have no problems.......except finding enough time to get out and hunt! LOL

And Walt is correct, keep the wife first, and she will let you go outside and play! LOL

HH y'all.

Welcome to the Hobby and this Site. Never ceases to amaze me at just how much craftsmanship went into making such beautiful iron castings back when.

Should be able to find many Tracker IV drivers around here for help or advice on that machine if needing any.

Yes, it's easy to get hooked that's for sure. Especially when you start finding all kinds of interesting things.
The Tracker IV is an excellent detector too ! Learn it well and you will be rewarded. Looks like you are off
to a good start to me ! Good hunting to you ! Gene
