Well I have been reading this forum for over a year and have been enjoying it but now I have a question. I just found ring number 35 for the year. The markings inside the ring read "PLAT-L" and then the makers mark. Any idea what "PLAT-L" means. Ring is not to fancy. Looks like a plane silver ring. And yes, it is heavy for it's size.

I am going to post this under WHATSIT also.

Have no idea about the "L" but you might have found platinum. A shop that buys gold should be able to test for that easily.

The question has been answered! After taking the ring to one jeweler he looked at it and said that the makers mark is "Shane Co." not Thom Co. And yes it is Platinum. There is a Shane Co. jewelers in town so I drove over to it to have them take a quick look. The young lady said yes it was a Shane Co platinum ring with small diamonds that was part of a wedding set. She said that the "L" is so that Shane Co can tell which jewelry designer that it manufactured by. The young lady said that yes it is 950 platinum and sold for in the store for about $1500.

Happy dance!!!!!!!!!

Now how do I get max value selling it? I do understand that I will not get $1500.

Congrats on the Plat. ring .
That is worth more than gold, how and what VDI number did the MXT register when you found it.?
Unfortunately when you buy jewelry you pay high markups when you sell you get low returns.
Find a reputable place to sell it to.
Noticed Midwest Refineries is well rated. by some detectorist.
Perhaps someone else will chime in.
What ever you do don't sell it to a pawn shop you'll get royally screwed.

Great find. Hope it brings you a chunk of coin.
