I built a small metal detecting test area with silver coins only.
Dimes & Quarters at 4",6",8" and a Quarter at 10".
Here's my results. Please let me know if you see anything wrong as I'm new to this.
4 of us hunted a CW camp a while back, I was skunked

Test right after dig - 8.5" coil and NEL BIG
Dime @ 4" - 76-80 (ATPRO screen values) - 8"depth, sensitivity -2 (2 from full sensitivity, or 0 Sens)
BigNel same
Dime @ 6" - 36-nil sens -2;
53-80 sens 0
BigNel 70-80
Dime @ 8" - sound only sens -2
03-82 sens 0
BigNel nil-82,99
Quarter @ 4" - 82-86 sens -2; 6"d
84-85 sens 0
BigNel same
Quarter @ 6"- 80-83 sens -2; 8"d
33-80 sens 0
BigNel 71-83 sens 0
83-87 sens -2
Quarter 8 - 25-53 sens -2; 10"d
04-78 sens 0
BigNel 80s but couldn't pinpoint
Quarter @ 10" - 03-53 sens-2; 10"+d
00-07 sens 0 with 1 blip of 78
BigNel occasional blip in 80s

Both coils - Occasionally on the deep coins it might hit 70s or 80s one time in one direction but not again.

Civil War 69 cal @ 8"; -2 sens sound only
0 sens 0-53 lots of 30s; 8"d
BigNel 26,39,53,80,85 sens0
88,90,00 sens -2; 8"d
Thanks,
Chris

Setting up test garden is the best way to learn a metal detector. You get all your favorite types of targets buried at known depths, and learn how your detector reacts to them.

The older your test garden gets, the deeper and easier you should be able to read those deeper silver coins. The slight leaching of silver oxides into the surrounding soil matrix will allow the coil to get better readings over time. You can help excel the process by poring a saline mixture above the coins in the dirt.

Thanks John, I was getting a little frustrated, it seems that with the deeper silver and the bullet ringing in at such a wide range, I'll need to just dig almost every single signal. I was hoping for more distinct or identifying info. But maybe I just haven't worked with it enough yet, I'll keep trying and pour a salt solution over the spots.
Thanks again John,
Chris
