New sun ray pro gold headphones.

Hello.
This is my first post so first off let me say this is the best forum i have been too.
Just purchased the xterra 70. (x-mas present for me) I Am totally new to detecting.
I also bought sun ray pro gold headphones. But they have no instructions on how to use them:(
My question is what are the switches for and the proper way to use them for the xterra.
such as low volume on the machine and high on he headphones. or vice versa.
please give me your valued opinions.
Thank You.
BIG JOHN
FROM IDAHO

Sorry, never used them. but, welcome and howdy.

I run both the detector volume and the headphone volume at max. Then be sure to adjust your threshold to just audible. One of the switches is a stereo/ mono switch. Try the switch in either way, you either ear sound or silence.

BTW Sweet setup you have.

Welcome John...You have made two good choices. The X-Terra-70 and Sun Ray pro Gold headset. First I set my volume on the X-70 at 15. I pass the coil over a quarter and adjust the volume knobs on each side of the headset. If not loud enough at full volume then reset the X-70 volume to 20 and try again. The switch on the right front must be in the up position. On your X-70 go to threshold and set it at 6. With the switch in the up position you will hear the tone. For best performance return the threshold to 2 or 3. Now I'm hoping some one will tell us both what the switch on the left is for...lmao

"New" Enhanced Limiter Circuit with on/off switch. (For more pronounced reduction in loud blasts from surface targets, while allowing the faintest of signal responses to be clearly heard). HH Randy

P.S. Welcome to the X-Terra forum bigjohn070. And thanks for the kudos!

One switch is the compatibility switch either you hear sound or don't .. The limit switch limits the volume on loud targets but doesn't effect the quiet ones.. Set the detector at max volume and crank the headphone (while passing it over a large target) til uncomfortable then throw the limit switch on and pass the target again there should be a very noticeable reduction in volume..The quiet sounds will remain close to the same as they were..

Congrats on the new X-Terra 70! I would also like to welcome you to the forum. You have a very good set up for sure. I have the Sun Ray pro Golds. They are a very good headphone. Good luck to you hunting, and enjoy, Beale.

Welcome to the X-70 forum. That machine has done me well.
I have used the X-70 for Gold Nuggets with Success.
I have used the X-70 for Jewelry for Gold & Diamond Success
I have used the X-70 in England for Ancient Coins/Artifacts and had more Success.
I also use the SunRay Pro Gold Edition headphones and highly recommend both X-70 and Sunrays.

On your SunRay Pro "Gold Edition" headphones.. you need to realize...With the power cord on your right ear, the front switch is the Stereo/Mono. If the detector does not work, you need to flip that switch up or down. It will be different for other brands and models and also depending on what they use in their internal plug. The back switch is the Limiter Switch. It does not work on all machines, but I know on a GB-2, with the switch down, it muffles louder signals to protect your ears. All you need to do is run over a larger metal item while flipping the back switch up and down to see if it works on your machine. If no change then you don

Wow, Gerry that really is quite something!

If you can answer me very briefly, what coil(s) do you use for the following tasks??:

"I have used the X-70 for Gold Nuggets with Success."
10.5 HF DD(This one would be my first choice.) or 5x10 HF DD or 6 HF DD or 9 HF C(Concentric)I wonder in low mineralization if this 9 HF Concentric coil will be very good for small nuggets as it is like using a mono coil?

"I have used the X-70 for Jewelry for Gold & Diamond Success"
All the above coils or the stock 9 MF C coil or 10.5 MF DD?

"I have used the X-70 in England for Ancient Coins/Artifacts and had more Success."
10.5 MF DD or the stock 9 MF C or 9 LF C?

(I wish Minelab would make a 10.5 LF DD for looking for silver and copper items in trashy areas when not particularly looking for gold items. Randy{Digger} wants a 6 LF DD.)
Thanks!

Hard to be brief on those questions because it depends on the targets size, metal, soil condition, depth and many more factors.

I'll tell you which coils I used for the photos..
Gold Nuggets- Those Nuggets were found using the 9" HF round coil.
Gold and Diamond Ring - Was found using the 10" HF ellip coil
Ancient Coins/Artifacts- I used different coils for different sites, but the 10" HF ellip, the stock 9" MF round and the 10.5" MF round coil.

For most nugget hunting in US and the size of nuggets being found, I myself would recommend 1st. 6" round HF coil and 2nd. 10" ellip HF coil.
For fresh water beaches and jewelry I use the 10"ellip HF and and the stock 9" MF coils.
For Deep Old Coin hunting in not to trashy of sites, I would use the stock coil or the 10.5 round MF coil.
In most of the Old Coin Sites I myself hunt, I like the 10" ellip and the small 6" round.
I have no Salt Water beaches to try so I do not know how a MONO coil will work on them.

Hope this helps.

Gerry --

Thanks for the answers. Always good to see you around. I bought my GBII and X-70 from you. Just moved to the Portland, OR area this last year. Looking forward to an outing in Sumpter for the training.

I agree about Gerry in Idaho, if you want to buy a detector he's the man to go to. If your new or old to detecting you cant go wrong with Gerry.
