New Stingray waiting

Lakota

New member
Guys this has without a doubt tested my patience. Been waiting and waiting on the Stingray, thought For Sure it would be here waiting for me Tuesday. Got home and no package. Yeah I about went ballistic, only to find out when the misses got home and collected the mail that there was a post tag in the mail box letting me know it was at the post office. Yeeeaahhh and it was already 6:00 pm when this was brought to my attention, * sighes* so I didn't get to play with my new toy for the holiday.

But I dang sure will today

Wish me luck. I'm about to spend every free minute in the water till this heat breaks or I do.

Oh No you misunderstand me Hank, Im going this evening after work :D The wife picked it up on her lunch . Then stopped by the house and left it there for me. Now I just need to get out there and track down the goods.

Oh sorry, sounds good HH tigerhank68

Hank no worries my friend.

Well I didn't fool with the machines internal settings since it was just refurbed by Tesoro.
So without ground balancing, I just set it at max sensitivity and left it in all metal. The swim area I went to isreally low as a result of the lack of rain and high temps we have been experiencing.

Well not many people besides me and that was fine.

First I found out thst the bobby pin that I thought had vanished with time, is alive and well at this swimming hole lol.
So while the tabs and bottle caps were few the bobby pins took up their slack, wasnt a complete shut out though.

Dug a chain bracelet that I'm hoping is silver. Three earings a couple sections of "Dog Tag" necklace and a section from something that has the walmart " panama jack " brand tag on it. Add to that 2 dimes and a zinc'r and 2 sinkers and you have the finds from my Stingrays first trip.

UPDATE* Sadly everything including the bracelet is attracted to a magnet.

Digging everything is the best way to learn your machine, congrats! Able to hunt in the water opens new areas to hunt, keep it up, tigerhank68

Well you got to to try out your new MD! As said digging all is the way to go in the water, Beale.

You all arent lying there. I figure to treat the water with the stingray like I do tot lots with my land machines and dig it all :D

You all have a good weekend. I'm going to get out tonight with my new 13" Detech coil for the F75 that showed up today, then tomorrow we are taking all the neices and nephews that couldnt make it to my youngest b-day party out to a lake side swimming area and then its Game On for water hunting ;)

Sounds like whole lotta fun to me!

Well getting to a swimming area saturday that I could detect didn't happen. We went to a nearby swim area that can only be detected certain times of the year. So it wasn't till today that I got out to one I could use the stingray on.

Now right off the bat I ran it wide open with no disc. But did play with the disc and found something very unusual for me when it come to tesoro's machines. It was noisey and chatting like my F75, that was just turning the disc up to iron to try and knock out the bobby pins. But with disc at zero it ran smooth and quiet. Now I have to ask what gives on that. With this machine ( like my Cutlass ) you really need to listen for those fainter deep signals. And with any amount of disc that does not look promising right now. I knew there would be a learning curve as with anything. But what I experienced today, heck I might as well bought the sand shark if I won't be able to use the disc to any good effect.

Sorry a little venting there and some hoping someone out there may have some good advice on this.

Did make some finds all clad and yeah more bobby pins and a boot heel with a couple nails in it.

And I know I need a long handled wet scoop, today in the shoulder deep water reminded me quickly of that ;)
Hopefully I be able to acquire one this Friday.

I attempted the ground balance but am unsure if it was done properly. As for the sens. I kept it maxed the whole time except when I tried to get the chatter down. It didnt seem to help quiet it though.

To set a proper GB, adjust threshold to a hum and set to all metal and have your disc at 0 and find a piece of ground that is metal free and pump it then adjust til there is little difference in tone as you pumping the coil , I would turn down sens a little should help with the chatty sound, then your done! Then set disc at 3 and off you go.
