"New" Spot Loaded With Old Coins

Sooper Dave

Well-known member
I found an old place on the maps a few weeks ago that looked awesome. Well I couldn't hunt because of all the snow and then all the rain we've had. Thursday was a beautiful day in the 60's so I made the drive to see what I could luck up on. My first target was a War Nickel and right after I dug a Washington and a Merc. I hunted the place hard for about three hours and had a great time digging all the old coins that were deep down. I had a good feeling about this spot since it's in a remote area but you never know if a place has been hunted hard over the years. I haven't dug a silver quarter in months and got three from there. I was excited to see the Barber quarter for sure. Everything besides clad was 6"-9" deep and I was using the Ultimate coil on the Etrac. HH David

All the coins in the pic are from one hunt at that spot??

Great job at research and outstanding collection of bonified keepers. Keep it up and keep posting pictures.

Yes that's one 3 hour hunt. I don't know if this place has ever been hunted. If it has, it was with machines that couldn't get down deep to these finds. I only hunted about half of the place and I'm hoping there's a few more keepers hiding down deep.

Thanks hubbler! It's rewarding to research a spot that pays off. I know I've hunted many places that had been picked clean and you might get lucky to find a wheat cent.

Holy shit! I told my buddy one of these days were gonna run across a virgin site and its gonna rain keepers! I can only HOPE we half as well as that,GREAT job of following it up from beginning to end! And,I wanna see what else comes outta there! Nice job Dave!

Thanks man. Keep looking for new places. You never know if you if that next site will be loaded and waiting for you to dig it all out. Good luck to ya!

Very nice haul there Dave. Always nice when the research pays off. And in spades! :clapping:

Excellent finds Dave. May I ask what maps you use? The spots here in Knoxville are few and far between, with the exceptions of the local parks.

Dave you just lived out my fantasy, sleuthing out an old site and digging a nice variety of old coins with plenty of silver. Like 2 silver coins an hour. In my fantasy I go back several times and keep the great finds coming. I also fantasize about winning the lottery! Great work by the way!

There's a few old maps online. Sanborn fire maps, historic map works etc. Not all areas are covered so you just got to search them all

Yeah I do the same. I dream about an untouched picnic grove from way back when or an old fairgrounds that no one has hunted. Research is a fun part of the hobby as well. I feel like a history detective sorting through all the clues. Good luck to ya!

What a spot need help

What a great return on your investment in research!

That was a phenomenal selection of finds for one hunt.

I hope it keeps giving to you for multiple future hunts.
