New Sovereign?

Do you all think Minelab will continue the Sov line? Maybe come out with a new one?

With the newly updated Explorer (aka Etrac) and newly updated Quatro (aka Safari) I'd love to see a new Sovereign, but not if it's only update is the new Pro Coil and fancy new housing. A faster processor is a must, the processor technology on the Sovs is circa 1980's, processors are obviously much faster and much cheaper these days. Also weight and ergonomics (something Minelab unfortunately isn't well known for) are also essential.

The Sov has such a huge following that they Minelab would be foolish to discontinue it. Personally I am hoping that the next Sov to come out will have the new thin lightweight coil design that they are now using on the Explorer SE Pro and E-Trac. It wouldn't take that much to make a Sov version of that coil. Minelab may have had that in mind as they left that large oval shaped area where the coil wires enters that would be prefect for the preamp that Sovs have within thier coils. Anyway I doubt the Sov's will be leaving us anytime soon! JMHO

They seem to be upgrading thier top of the line machines to much faster processors so hopefully it will be an across the board speed increase and the next Sov will benefit from a processor speed upgrade!!!!! As you said the processor in the Sov is ancient technology. I am surprised with the rate of change in the electronics field today that they can still get such an old processor. Things become obsolete and get discontinued so fast these days it's not even funny!

I agree with the above, especially as digital screens etc is not everyones cup of tea

Some great recommendations, but besides the ergonomics and quicker processor, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A DEPTH INDICATOR on a New Model SOVEREIGN!!

Agreed, a depth indicator would be a nice addition.

I know that the hip mount feature of The Sovereign, is one of the fan favorites. But I would like to see a Sovereign, with a trigger for all metal/pinpoint mode. I would like to also see the tones updated to digital tones perhaps akin to the Explorer series. I would also like to see just a single small LCD screen showing target id akin to the current 180 meter. keep the BBS 17 freq, just update with faster processors. Basically imagine a Sovereign that looks like the older Fisher 1266x, with the trigger and rotary controls, and a heavy duty LCD jewel where the speaker is on the 1266.
To compensate for the loss of the hip mount, Minelab could offer the new Sovereign as the definitive weather proof detector. Sovereigns have always been built like tanks and that should continue. I get chills thinking of the new Sovereign, and it is the only new detector that would make me trade my SOV GT

I threw in a picture of the old 1266x for a mental image of what a new Sovereign could be. Remember a heavy duty LCD where the speaker is on the 1266x just showing numbers, and the ease of a pinpoint in trigger form......(I WISH)
And one final point. It would be nice if all sunray accessories, for the current Sovereign work on the new Sovereign.

I just hope Des, and the boys over at Minelab are reading this.:detecting:

A faster processor and less weight would be great. One other thing I would like (if possible) is to have meter readings in all metal the same as disk. I run AM sometimes in a new area to get a feel of what is around. If too much iron I have to turn on disc. I have a fisher coinstrike that has this feature but the readings differ with depth. The sov elite gives the same reading no matter how deep. If it did the same in AM it would be awsome.

Just a faster processor and iron see through like the Etrac would do me, leave the rest the same, otherwise its not a Sovereign but an SE

seems like everyone wants a faster processor but Im not so sure that would be an improvement. from what Ive read minelab put a faster processor on the etrac and that seems to be causeing problems of its own.
Id for sure like to see a lighter version with a built in meter that keeps its hipmounting/chestmounting capability. they could also drop some of the toggles like the silent threshold and noise band as I find those useless. also the iron mask on/off function, still havent been able to find any advantage to that and I think minelab figured that out early on as they dropped it pretty quick from the sov line. now a form of adjustable iron mask, like on the explorer would be great.
if minelab could fit it into the Xterra housing and keep that nice larger easy to read meter(180scale)that would be terrific.
