Minelab has released a new version of the Sovereign; the GT. Cosmetic changes are minor; straight shaft with the adjustable handle (SD or GP gold unit style) which makes for better balance. However, the circuitry/mode improvements are what many of us have wanted for years: Silent/Threshold mode; a ground tracking mode (via Set/Fix as the original Sov had but improved), the ability to turn on and off the Iron Mask mode (Fantastic!!!!) and of course the dual Disc modes, Noise Cancel etc. I believe Minelab has given us the best of the old and new! The new Sovereign GT standard package has a MSRP of $799. The Pro packs are still available as an option (BBS 800 coil and cover, NiMH battery, wall charger and Hip/Chest mount bag) as are the Sov Elites (MSRP $699). The Target ID meter does not come with the standard Sov GT, however, it may be purchased as an option. If the temps weren't so cold and snow lying on the ground, I would be giving the GT a spin today...but soon. I will keep everyone posted. I do believe this is going to be a super Sovereign! Good hunting, David @ Dixie
