New Sov user.... Anyone try aftermarket rods?

Well, I just got my first Sov today (a GT) and noticed right away the meter is impossible to read with the straight shaft. I noticed there are some aftermarket straight shafts available that will mount the meter on the grip which makes a lot more sense and I'd like to keep using a straight shaft since it's more comfortable than the older S models. I'm still up in the air of whether to go with a Sunray probe on this or a good Uniprobe or Detector Pistol Probe. If I go with a new rod which mounts the meter on the grip, where would I mount the S-1 probe box? Seeing as how this Sov GT will also be my beach machine (when I do make it out that way), is another reason not to go with a Sunray probe. Decisions, decisions......

Hey Weasel Loader, I have a Brand NEW Sov-GT Meter Mount, that I never used. It is the one that Dave's Dixie Detectors sell for $25.00, plus $5.00 shipping. I will sell it to you
for $23.00 shipped, USPS Money Order, No PAYPAL!! This is the meter mount, that allows you to position your meter to the side of the MINELAB Stock Straight Shaft, so that your view of the meter is not obstructed by the MINELAB Adjustable Hand Grip.. I use a
SunRay DTI-III Meter, which is a taller vertical meter compared to the Minelab Sov-GT Meter, and did not need to use the meter mount after-all. You can click on to Dave's Dixie
Detectors and see pictures of the meter mount. If interested, feel free to call me anytime, and I will return your call as soon as I see your message, because I am going detecting
tomorrow, and won't have computer access until late tomorrow night. My cell ph# is (302) 354-5661, hh,Les Robinson

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm going to go with one of those aftermarket rods that let you mount the meter on the grip. I believe it also sets the box a little further to the rear. Thanks again for the offer. :)

Here's a pic of my original sovereign with the DTI II meter on a straight shaft mod. Excellent overall balance of the sovereign with the straight shaft compared to the s-rod configuration.

Check our Specialty Items page for several models and accessories. I have the custom rods and original CoinSearch coils.
