New sound

Took my new Coinmaster out today even though the ground is frozen solid. Machine worked as I expected and I even found 2 dimes, a nickel and 7 pennies on the very surface. Got many good signals but could not dig at all for the earth was hard as flint.

I did use the time to experiment with lifting the coil on marginal sounds and play with the settings. For a simple machine I think it will be very useful should global warming ever happen.

One sound I did hear was not familiar to me and I found no reference to it in the detector's literature. It was the sound of an angry cornered cat, a low growl. Very much different than the monotone used on this White's machine. I tend to think it's an indicator of large iron but could not dig to investigate. When I got the "growl" I could lift the coil 8-10 inches and still get the growl. Had to bring it up a foot to lose it. This happened several times in an area I know to be very trashy. I tested the machine in this trashy area specifically because I knew I would not be able to dig and just wanted to test the discrimination and sensitivity on the new machine.

Anyone else have a "growl" feature on their White's? I've owned several White's in the past and do not remember this sound.

It sounds like a deep, larger iron object to me.
