New site...

I went hiking today actually looking for cellar holes for land hunting (no luck they had been hunted out). On the way home I stopped at a location on my gps I have been meaning to look at. Low and behold I found a swimming hole in a stream that people use. I grabbed my Excal and put on my waders and in I went. Signals were everywhere, it had obviously not been hunted. I was ripping out coin after coin (all new clad), bottle caps and pull tabs. My heart was pumping I thought the gold was coming at any time.
but... it never did. I could not believe it... there were so many coins I was standing in one place just digging for 30 minutes at a time. There were so many signals that I could not even pinpoint in places  I was pulling up multiple coins at a time and at one point I had 6 coins in a single scoop
The stream had a very swift current and it was tiring work :starwars: . I just don't understand why not a single piece of jewelry, even kids. I may be on to something though. There were several places where I found many coins bunched together, and several places that had multiple fishing weights all together.

Can the gold be bunched up together someplace that I did not get to yet? Are fresh water streams anything like the beach where things gather together The bottom wan full of stones and sand. I wish I had my sifter with me as after each scoop I had a scoop full of stones.

I was in a river like that, in South Carolina.... I found things gathering in holes. One thing about gold, it is heavier...Keep Looking, you may find it.

WOW.... If you need a hand detecting this new site let me know I'll be glad to help..... Sounds like a great spot...

The coin signals might override the softer gold tones. OR the gold is heavier thus deeper......KEEP DIGGING....... sounds like a good place to go back to. HH Gayle

Oh I will definitely be returning, after the long hike through the woods, the stiff current and all the stones to dig through I was whooped by the time a drug myself out. There was still targets everywhere. It will take some time to get the site cleaned up. I am hoping it is not just little kids who swim there. There were beer cans around and I dug about 5-10 beer caps so I know there are teenagers at least too. I new they were beer caps before I dug them but with so many targets around I wanted to clean the area up and make sure there was not a good target next to it.
I had the sensitivity down a bit clearing off the top. There was almost no nulling (only 1 or 2 spots) so after I get the top cleaned off I may return with the Infinium. The rocks were brutal to dig through, I need to get a pointier scoop.
Man my heart was pumping every time I got that nickel or pull tab tone

Hello spdnj, you mentioned lead sinkers in that mix along with the coins. That is a recipe for deliciousness, stay on it. If the gold is around there, the lead area will be holding it, more than likely, as that is the target with a comparable density/specific gravity to gold. If they wore it in there, it will eventually show. You may need to keep hammering it till things quiet down some. You're not going to hear a deep/faint signal, when the coins and lead are blasting you every few inches. The gold will be deeper, or at the lead sinker level, savvy? GIT AFTER IT!

just keep cleaning it up and the gold will come. I pulled out a lot of junk for weeks ,then in 1 week i hit this

I hit an ocean beach site that hadn't been worked, at least not for a long time. It was so long ago I was using the original Garrett sea hunter a vlf machine. The bottom was almost on continuous signal. I really thought the detector was broken at first. It took several trips to clean up enough of the coins to get to the gold. I would love to tell you I found tons of gold but like so many other times I was transferred before I could clean that site out. I was picking up $30-$40 in change per two tank dive. Wow the most exciting time detecting I've ever had. Also the best find came out of that hole. It was a solid Gucci bracelet 18Kt with one ounce of gold in it. Work it and don't share the location info with anyone who hasn't been a close friend for a long time. Best to all, Mike.
