hi all, hope ur hunting is going well! I have come across a new area to hunt, in the first trip there i found a bunch of trash but also got a few old slugs and found shotgun shell casings that dated between 1893-1923 so there is older stuff here, Though there is a lot of trash, being that i know the older stuff is there do u guys think its worth the insane amount of time it will take to dig all the trash away or am i wasting my time in this area?

I would say that there are some keepers to uncover, if your finding shell casing of that sort that it is a undetected site, dig all you can to get some of the surface targets out of the way for deeper relics, good luck, Hank , a sniper coil would do wonders for ya!

thanks Hank, ive been wondering about the sniper coils lately. Do they make one for the sea hunter II? i have only found one other coil for it and it is the larger 11" (i think).

on a side note i went back there after posting (oculdnt resist :) ) found a bunch more of the lead slugs. Some were buried in rotting timber. Ill be putting up a post in a little while with pics, including one still buried in teh chunk of wood.

Don't know about the sea hunter .

Help! How do you date those shotgun shell casings.

With mine it was rather easy. I was able to read the entire stamping on the bottom. Just did a google search and came across a listing for the production years. Though it did say something about certain manufacturers being impossible to date due to the range of years they were in use. Also, certain casings were made by one company then sold to another who would pack it and sell it to consumers. So that leaves the door open to "when did they pack and sell that cartridge".
