Last winter Luke and I had the project of making our own scoop. Just for the fun of it... well we worked on them for a while, but had problem with my electric welder and left the project unfinished. Here is Luke making a delicate retouch to one of the bottoms we drilled :

Well since i'm on vacations and dont have any clues where i should go, i decided to finish up one of the scoops, just to see. After tempering a long while whit falty welding, i decided i had enauph and drove around to find a welder. Found one, was very understanding of my needs and did the job in 15 minutes for 10 bucks ! That is the only expense the project needed, the rest were scrap parts Luke and I ran into.
well here it is, almost ready for a spin. I say almost because i'm pretty sure it will need a smal perpendicular handle to help raise it from the bottom once filled with sand... i taught i could find that in a bike shop, but the handle is too large for the ones going on bikes...got to fin an other option. I could weld one, but was hoping to find something else. Finally it will need a neodynium magnet in the scoop to catch metal bits and halp me determine on the spot if i have a silver on nickle coin.
here is the results. By the way i also painted my old trusty wood handle scoop. It may not look impressive, but i found hundreds of gold with that old one, and i'm still not convinced the new one will replace the trusty old scoop.
