New sand scoop. Beach ready!

I got my new sand scoop today for my beach vacations this year.
Last year, I bought a RTG Kick-It scoop, and it was great. I went with a bigger scoop this year.
The Kick-It was a 5" scoop with a short basket. This time I decided to go with a 6" scoop that is longer and with a thicker pole and supports. The back support is key so you can drive it into the sand with your foot without it collapsing. It's a little bit more weight, 3.4 lbs compared to 1.6 lbs, but it should be better in the surf. Both are light since they are aluminum. I think it makes a difference for beach hunting and not water hunting since I am out all day.
I use my Etrac on the dry sand and AT Pro in the surf. The bigger scoop should make a difference in the surf this year. I learned real quick, last year, that when you detect a target in the surf, you pretty much have one shot at scooping it before the next wave comes in and you have to find the target again, if it's not in your scoop.
A bigger scoop should be better, as I don't think I was getting evough 'dig' on the Kick-It scoop in the water. I still have to put a tether on my new scoop.
Here's a few pics. One of my new scoop, and the other of my old scoop and the homemade one I used before that. I still have the homemade one.

You might want to add a pointed stainless lip on it. I use stainless bolts to attach mine.

The point adds some bite when you are digging in the surf.

Thanks for the tip Robocop. I think that would be a good idea, especially since it's aluminum and we all know how easily that gets bent and banged up, you know?

nolanation.... I wish I had the old one to do a side-by-side, as this scoop is much bigger. 5" round by 7" long vs. 6" round by 11" long ....

Nice detectors! But I do recon the holes on your scoop should be smaller, they are far to big! You could lose necklaces so easily, and also, those annoying tiny bits of metal that you dig, and then they go through the scoop and sette back in the hole (like ring pulls) that take up loads of digs to get. You could put a wire mesh inside the scoop, that would make it perfect! Good luck withi it, I like your home made scoop, that is awesome :) good luck water wizard

I was thinking about that same scoop with the SS tip OR the RTG with the screen back. Even thought about that Kick it because: I live 70 miles from the beach (not my primary focus) and I don't have a water MD (use a 705).
So I'm torn between extra light wt vs a heavier duty aluminum scoop. I have 2 RTGs but not the kind where you can use your foot.

Not trying to hijack- but could you tell me a little about the kick it?

Thanks

My Aluminum RTG got chewed up in 6 months of heavy use. Put a nice stainless tip on her and it rocks. Cove that handle or your hands will turn black fast.
