I had a great day lots of coins and a nice ring, (I love these N E WINDS) look at this ring, is it platinum? It's very heavy. Maybe one of you old salts can help me out.The stamp is PT and then the manufactures mark.
Thanks

I deal with mostly hard packed sand with some black in it, i set the excal. the very lowest settings and I do well but it seems to me hard packed sand seems a little harder to penetrate. Any advice on this? This is one thing with the Excal. I'm not sure about, wait, 1 of many things.:help:

THE WEIGHT OF THIS RING IS INCREDIBLE (RANG ON MY EXCAL. AS IF IT WERE SILVER) . IF IT WERE GOLD D IT WOULD EVEN COME CLOSE TO THIS. I WAS READING ONE OF YOUR POSTS ABOUT SELLING GOLD AND SILVER TO Midwest Refineries, I HAVE SOLD GOLD TO LOCAL JEWELERS AND FELT I GOT RIPPED OFF :rant:IN THE PAST, I THINK THE NEXT TIME I WILL TRY THEM OUT. WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THERE ARE DIAMONDS IN THE RING? THE JEWELERS DON'T SEEM INTERESTED IN THEM AS THEY ARE IN THE GOLD AND PLATINUM WEIGHT. AS ALWAYS, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN THE PAST, BY THE WAY, HAVE YOU BEEN DOWN TO THE BEACH SINCE THE HURRICANE DEVASTATED YOUR AREA OR DID IT SAND IN?
Bill

Don't know what type of platinum you got there, but it should sound a lot, lot lower than silver on the Scally, down in the pulltab range or lower??

I think you will be more pleased with Midwest Bill. They pay 94% on gold. Use the Dendritics precious metals calculator, after weighing (troy ozs.) your finds, to make sure that you know you weights and values. I would advise you to send in separate karat weight batches though, as I believe it improves your assay results. I asked Gary at Midwest about this and he neither confirmed nor denied that I was right. They will weigh your gold in troy ozs., fyi. I give the rings to a wholesale jeweler connection of mine. He removes the stones and pays me for them. I then send off the gold rings, for scrap. Things have been a little lame after the hurricane, but maybe they will turn around. WTG on that PT, that is a HUGE MILESTONE!

Thanks, for the hell of it, I went to a jeweler and he said he would give 540.00 for both rings. Not bad but I will go to your guy

Weigh each ring 1st and use this calculator. http://dendritics.com/scales/metal-calc.asp
I would advise to hold onto them for now, as platinum has taken a SHARP drop in value. It is not much higher than gold right now. About 6 months ago it was over 2 grand! Hold out!
