Hello,
I'm from Poland and my English is not very well so sorry for that.
I have question.
Usually I am looking for coins in the fields. But it seems to me that a small silver targets are ignored.
Also what is the best setting for coins on the fields?
I have Makro Racer 2
Thanks for help.

But I would bet your Polish is really good! I am SO jealous of people who speak more than one language! Kudos!

As to your question, I wish I could help, but I just got my Racer 2 a few days ago. But you've come to the right place! There's some very knowledgeable people here who can certainly help.

So I will wait for the answers.
I have one more question, which coil is best for coin in the fields?

You have to remember that small silver items may not come in as silver at all because of their small size and or % of silver. Where I hunt, the smallest silver coin (50% silver content, smaller and thinner than a US Dime) comes in as a 40-41 which is basically square tab range. So finding those small coins and gold, I dig those signals. Sometimes also gold rings can come in jumpy numbers simply due to their fashion design.... so I dig those too.

Thanks for answer but I'm looking settings for small silver coins and small targets.
Usually I dig all color signals, I have seen topic about littered space and precise description settings, that is why I'm asking about settings for small coins, silver targets etc.
And which coil is best for coin in the fields?
Maybe one topic about settings can help for all?
In one topic we can collect all yours experience?
That would be great.

What type of field are you hunting ? One that is plowed or like a pasture ? If plowed I would use the stock coil, if it is pasture etc, then I would use the 5.5 x 10 coil as it is enclosed and can glide through the stubble and weeds etc.

The only way I see the R2 ignoring small silver (coins ??) is that its too deep, running very high discrimination or you have notched out the areas that small silver might fall in.

If the field is fairly clean of trash I would run 2 tone, Gain at 85 or more, ID Filter at 2, Iron Audio at 1, no Notch. Either stock or 5.5 x 10 coil depending on site condition and a slow methodical sweep, as not to miss the "small" silver object.

If trashy then depending on the amount of trash, either the 5.5 x 10 or the small 5" coil, 3 tone, gain at 70 or 85 , ID Filter at 2, Iron audio at 1, no Notch.

Not having much information to go by, I would start with these basic setups and tweak them to your likes and needs. Also the "small silver" if you have a sample, run it under the coil to get an idea of what it reads, what VDI number(s) does it generally fall in. Then you could lower your tone break so that it will give a "high" tone. On my machine I lower the tone break to 65, so while hunting old sites, Indian Head pennies etc will give a "high"tone.

What settings are you currently using on the Racer 2 ?

Usually it is plowed but sometimes pasture.
Settings :
two-tone
id filter 18
gain 80 and more if it is possible
notch filter I'm not using

And I'm thinking about NEL TORNADO, It is good idea?

While the stock 11" DD coil that comes with the Racer2 is a very good coil, I'm finding that the 5.5" x 10" coil has been an awesome performer, even in iron infested sites.

As for the settings, there's a lot of variables to factor in, some site specific. Are these plowed fields?

I would probably start with the settings I've been using on my R2 and doing pretty well with finds on - 3-tone (silver will sound sweet), gain as high as you can, I frequently detect with my gain @ 98, I have the iron audio set at 2, and my disc is set at 2, my break points are set to 10 and 65. Also I'm learning that you can go really slow with these machines and then they'll pick up targets a normal pace of detecting will miss if they're masked.

I would lower ID Filter to 2. ID Filter at 18 is pretty high and if you have small silver that is being partially masked, you might lose it with that high of discrimination. On the Racer 2 Ferrous is 0-10 and non ferrous is 11-99 so you are discriminating out into the non ferrous range. That's whats nice about the Racer 2, is you have Iron Audio Volume which lets you run very low discrimination and the ability to "turn down" or turn off the low tone. Set Iron Audio at 1 to just hear the low tone or set it at 0 to not hear it at all. The less discrimination that you run the better. It doesn't take much to mask or partially mask a small silver coin. That would be the only thing I would change, lower your discrimination. As far as the coils I would stick with the stock or 5.5 x 10.

If it's very small silver coins, and iron is really thick, then my preference would be the 5" coil. The stock coil is still very sensitive, and capable of decent depth, so stick with that while you are learning the settings.
