New Quantum II on the way

I just aquired a used Quantum II off FeeBay and looking for any info from other owners...Any hidden secrets I should know about??? Any Mods??? What are the best coils to use in different situations???

Hi GoGoGopher, I also have a Quantum II on its way to me. I just traded my Minelab Musketeer Colt (I really liked this detector,my Wife did not) for a Quantum II that was a new in the box old stock sold by Mr. Bill to a forum member and he traded it to me for my Colt. I know absolutely nothing about the Quantum, but I do know that White's can update it to give it more features/options. There is a site you can check out with some good info called THE QUANTUM SERIES TIPS & TRICKS by Thomas E. Hill found here http://66.51.97.78/jb/quantumtips.html I have the stock coil another 8" coil and a 6" coil comming for it. I am gettng really itchy to get it so I can give it a try. Steve.

Thanks for the info...Mine will come with the Royal 800 coil, and I am getting a Blue Max 600 for it...may get the 5.3 also...Really looking for one of the 4x6 coils...

Just checked the tracking number on mine, it won't be here for the weekend (be here on Monday). Mine is comming with the stock 7.8 coil and a Blue Max 600 and Blue Max 800. I will have to give the small coil a try in the tot lots, I like jewelry hunting & am curious to see how well it does. Steve.

When you get them see what hardware they got my QXT has the 1.2 hardware,whites can upgrade the hardware in the Quantum II if it dosn't have that version.

Mine is comming from a place called Cypress,Texas to me in upstate New York by UPS ground. I have heard that Texas is so big it takes 3 days of shipping just to get out of Texas. Good luck with yours GoGoGopher.

If i remember correct, the Q2 start up screen says it is 1.0 version.
Whites said it would be roughly $65 to upgrade it to the QXT software and they change the stickers and everything but the coil, but just tell them what coils you will be using and they will adjust it to the coils. I was also told that all you really need is the 950 coil and it will be as deep as the qxt pro.

Well I got a tracking # for mine, and it is a short 100 mile trip from Albany, NY to Syracuse, NY...I should receive the machine by tomorrow night 5pm...Yippeee!!!!
I will let ya know what I think once I have used it...It is hotter than blazes up here in NY and I am overweight and out of shape and borderline asthmatic, so I stay in the AC when the temps get above 80...Temps are not what bother me...I could handle 95 in Missouri, it is the humidity that makes it hard to breath...MO was dry...Up here in NY, it is like walking in a pool...
Now I need to find a 3.5" coil...I hear White's no longer makes em, and they are going for high prices used...

Now this is getting really weird, you have a Quantum II on its way to you, I have a Quantum II on its way to me. If you live in Syracuse,N.Y. I am only a 2 hour (north) drive from you. I live in a small town about halfway between Gouverneur and Ogdensburg N.Y. Tell me about the heat up here the past few days, I am a dairy farmer and we just started haying a few days ago.

Well, She arrived tonight, and this is how she was packaged...Worst I have ever received...

I was peeved to say the least...Luckily it was NOT damaged...A Big fat Negative feedback for you!!!!
Will take it out tonight or tomorrow and see what she can do...It has version 1.2 of the software...1996 it was installed.

Hey GOGOGopher you have the latest software,as for that packing job that sucks I'd be pissed too. Theres no excuse for that.Better check her out with a fine tooth comb .I hope shes not damaged internally and cosmetic wise.

She shows some signs of wear...(15 hours use my arss)...She does have a coil cover on the 7.8, and it is scuffed quite a bit...Over all, for it's age, itis in darn good shape...especially the screen...No apparent damage from shipping...I put new duracells in her and took it out for a little walk in the tot lot tonight, and she appears to work just fine...found only clad (I have hunted the lot in the last few months, not too much left in there)...3 nickles, 1 dime, 4 pennies (copper). I was hunting in the coin and jewelry mode with high coin signal on, disc on, sens at 18...

Hey GGG great machine you got there. I know the feeling about bad packing. My MXT came LOOSE in a cardboard box with a couple of styrofoam peanuts thrown in. I got lucky like you though and the machine was fine. WTH are these people thinking ? Anyway I hope the weather gets better for you so you can take that machine out for some real huntin. I think you'll love it and if there's any confusion (like me) there's plenty of expert help here. Good luck.

The 1.2 is the highest software upgrade you can get. As to the difference between Quantum II,QXT and QXT Pro in programs,features etc is beyond me.But as far as 1.2 software thats it.My Qxt has four preset programs Coin,Coin & Jewlery,Jewlery & Beach and Relic and Prospecting.Eight Zones,14 ADjustmentsVOL,Threshold,Search Sens.,Pinpoint sens,Viewing angle,SAT Speed,Tracking Speed,Transmit freq,Discrim,VCO,Noise reduct,mixed mode,descrim edit,tone alert edit.As to what your quantum II has?
