new platinum

I just recieved my new platinum and it might be my inexperience speaking but i was kind of dissapointed. With the 8" coil it does not seem to get anymore depth than my sharpshooter 2. The sharp shooter might even be a little deeper, this is in the air. Also i thought it had a manual ground balance it does not. Also does anyone know if the ground grab is a real ground balance or is it like the retune button on my sharpshooter? I hoped it would ground balance in discriminate but does not. If anyone could help me with these issues i would truly appriciate it. Thank you all

I have a thread started yesterday about the differences between the Platinum and the Tek Gamma on the Teknetics forum.

The manual says that the Ground Grab on the Platinum will only GB to 40. Without manual GB, you cannot balance to wet ocean sand or higher FE ground. The Platinum can detect coins up to 9" according to the manual, the Gamma up to 11" (if you read both and believe what you read). According to Dave Johnsons essays (FTP engineer) the processes used to detect are different. The Platinum LOOKS good, but is a BH legacy. I'd consider the $200 extra for a Tek Gamma, myself.

“F5 process” The Fisher F5 and “new” Gold Bug, and the Teknetics Delta, Gamma, and Omega use a process first developed for the F5. The “F5 process” is a variation on the “default” process which emphasizes quieter operation in heavy iron trash.

“BH process” This refers to discrimination and target ID processes which are based on the principle of sampling the peak of the second derivative signal, timed by the zero crossing of the first derivative signal. Most of the legacy Bounty Hunter products use this process, as do the Fisher CZ’s.

The Platinum is based on the Teknetics process. I found an old post by Dave Johnson explaining so.

He says the Platinum is a sleeper that gives higher end options for an extremely low price.

Hightone, i saw that you use an f2. Im not criticising the platinum, the more i use it i am starting to like it but the f2 will run with it in my opinion. Now i dont have anywhere near the experience of most people here but i really like my f2 for coin hunting. I use it with a 4" bounty hunter coil. The f2 id is great.

Dave Johnson engineered and non Dave Johnson engineered.

I have my F2 and it is not leaving. Yes, for the price it is the easiest detector that is accurate to 6"+. The Platinum has it's place over the F2. GB, AM mode, volume control that could come into play at any time. I have a Land Ranger Pro coming as well with a coil option that works with the Platinum. With these 3 detectors, I have as good a command over what's under the ground to 7-8" than any $1000-$2000 detector. I choose clarity over depth, since most targets are less than 7" deep.

I don't see a difference between Bounty Hunter (LRP), Fisher (F2) and Teknetics (Gamma/Platinum). I see Dave Johnson engineering in all three (with JSaad, JGardiner).
