Greetings from Western Mass. I am a proud and new owner of a Spectra V3. I look forward to further participating on this forum. Have a great day.

Welcome to the forum rushman. You are in an area rich in history and lots of goodies to find. Good luck......:detecting:

Welcome and good luck with your V3. There are a great bunch of people here on the forum. rob

Hi Rushman I am in central/eastern massachusetts. I love my V3 and you will be amazed at how deep it finds thngs. Good hunting.

I to am new, and would welcome any suggestions on setting up the detector, I am interested in all metal mode as I really am looking for all kinds of stuff from meteor fragments to coins and relics, I don't really care if I get lots of hits as long as the analysis is fairly accurate and not having me digging lots of junk, at least till I get use to the analysis mode and get good at reading it, for awhile it would be good practice ant reading the info and interpreting the info. Later perhaps some custom programs to be more selective, but at first I want to read all, and get it setup to do good analysis of my targets. Any info would be of great value from you great pros out there...

Once you use the V and have specific questions we will be here to help. In the mean time use the search feature and read through the posts. I think every question has been answered at least once. [attachment 159923 Reading.gif] Rob

Hi Tazman, welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your new V3 - you will have lots of fun with it and we are looking forward to reading about your future finds. The V3 can be a bit tricky to learn - start with the pre-set programs and then don't be afraid to tweak with the settings until you find what works for you and the area you live in. Many of the users on here are extremely knowledgeable and you can definitely search previous posts to get plenty of information.

Good luck to you!

Welcome to the forum Tazman, and Nugget has some good words of wisdom. I use the Hi-Pro program slightly modified and the V3 does all that I would expect from a top-o-line detector.

Get a good pre-hunt routine.
Start with your basic program and adjust frequency offset for EMI if required, then lower the Rx gain if further adjustment are required. Then do a ground balancing and check it by going into the pinpoint mode and listening to how much the threshold changes when the loop is raised and lowered to the ground slowly. I cannot stress to keep pumping until the V quiets. This help performance in all modes. If acceptable then I start hunting. If not I will try another spot to accomplish a proper ground balance. I usually set the ground balance to Lock Track when I am hunting. Once a deeper target is located I will try different filter settings and see which filter will give the best response.
As far as the recovery delay goes I use a setting between 40 and 120 depending on the amount of trash in the ground with the smaller number being for trashy sites and the larger numbers for wide open areas. The recovery delay is for the disc mode only. The SAT speed is for the all metal mode only, if I am hunting in all metal or mixed mode I usually set this to around 15.
